Ah.
My only experience with sound boards is when I was one of my school's DJs in Grade 8 - basically, my rememberance of it all is there were a series of tiny dials, but 2-3 of them in particular were connected to the stereo system that played multiple CDs at once: turning one dial all the way down would fade out one CD, while turning another dial all the way up would fade in another. Then, there was also a slider that was the master volume for our broadcast, and we were forbidden from sliding up past a certain point, because it would over-modulate the volume, thus causing too much distortion and interference.
We also had an iMac connected to the whole thing as well, that had a library of sound effects and such that we would goof off with - I remember one day, we played around with a horse neighing, and all kinds of crashing sounds, implying that a horse was loose in our sound booth and destroying everything.
