How about The Smurfs. It's weird how that franchise has dropped off the face of the earth.

Definitely sucks for them. My now-ex girlfriend was a pretty typical candy kid, and she wore Smurfs stuff constantly. They're still popular in the rave scene too. That's only clothing-wise though; I don't know how DVD releases would do ([some] kids who want to be a walking nostolgia billboard might not go out and buy DVDs of the shows they advertise. Weird huh?)

Some of these properties are still pretty hot abroad - i hear the Smurfs are still doing well in France. ALF also is wildly popular and on prime time TV daily in Russia and Germany. I notice that loads of our old cartoons and TV shows, while we never hear of them are usually on daily in some European foriegn language countries. I guess because they make crappy TV themselves ... although the Italian version of TV Strip Poker - 'Tuti Fruiti' was quite an event !

Yeah.. funny thing that. Aren't the Smurfs European to begin with?

You probably know my Guilty pleasur for the Ultimate Muscle show. Not proud of it, though. Oddly enough in it's native Japan it BOMBED (The original Kinnikuman series did quite well, but they never exported it to America in the 80's) but it's pretty successful here... odd...

But anyway, I have yet to find the ALF DVD's... when were they released?

Too bad they don't have a cartoon episode as an easter egg....

Yup, i think the Smurfs were either French, German or something like that - they still do the toys in Happy Meals here in the UK very occasionally.

The ALF DVD was only really released to Canada and is called 'The ALF Files' - you can buy it at www.amazon.ca, www.laffstock.com and through the American Ebay site. It has a commentary by ALF and the creators.
