Probably because Donald and Melania are afraid people will make fun of them.
But on a serious note, I'm a little baffled that even Fox News is supporting Acosta and CNN as they sue the White House over Trump having Acosta fired . . . for doing his job.
Because they understand that positions of power change and when you allow government control over basic rights you are allowing future government the same authority. Today it is Acosta because Trump is in office, in 2 year it might be John Roberts if there is a democratic president.
True conservatism is about preserving the bill of rights and thinking that people are better off making their own choices. True conservatives believe the role of federal government is simply to protect its citizens from harm and maintain a sovereign nation. All powers not outlined in the constitution should be given to the states, which is why we have a separation of power between state and federal. It's why conservatives believe that all speech should be allowed, especially unpopular speech, because what is popular today may not be tomorrow. The government should have no power to take away what the founding fathers deemed inalienable rights. Conservatism allows for the idea that people are not naturally good and will do what is in their best interest, so we should not give politicians too much power as they will only do what is best for them and not the people.
True liberalism is about believing giving government power to control whats good for the people as a whole. There is a belief in autonomy, but the public good is the responsibility of government. It's why they believe the government should provide for its people, not just protect its people. It is good for society for the government to provide and control health. It is good for the government to provide and control food production. It is good for the government to provide and control education. So on and so on. Liberalism requires that people are naturally good and this will always do what is right for the others. It's why liberals are ok with giving the government power over speech (like hate speech laws) because they can't imagine that power being used for evil purposes.
Conservatives being against Trump on the Acosta situation is actually not surprising. They ought to be outraged if they are true conservatives. The only reason liberals are outraged is because it's Trump doing it. If this was a FOX News reporter being kicked out by Obama, liberals wouldn't care as much and you probably wouldn't hear much about it. Being a conservative is not necessarily a bad thing, and you can be a conservative democrat.
