Over JHC's rich 50 year legacy of memorable characters like Kermit, Gonzo, Pepe, Big Bird, Grover, and Gobo...there was bound to be a few characters that somehow slipped under the radar. Here then now are some characters thast just didnt quite make it:

The Southern Colonel:

Perhaps it was the fact he voted for presidential candidate Strom Therman in the 40's, or touted the mighty praise of the Confederacy...but whatever it was the Southern Colonel
wasnt exactly well recieved outside of the rural south. A short lived stint with a few commercials here and there, the Colonel can now be seen campaigning for his own ticket on the 2004 primaries under a new 'segregist puppet' platform.

Bad Andy:

Created for Dominos' Pizza by the JHC, this little guy got more bad press than Pee Wee at an adult boutique. I miss the little Muppet thug though. I guess America wasnt ready for a chronic smokin', fowty ounce tippin, foulmouthed potty head.
Err, wait, maybe thats a straw in his mouth?

Flat Eric:

While he never quite took off stateside, in the late 90's Flat Eric
mania swept through Europe like the macarena(or a bad fishy smell) This JHC built Muppet was Europe's answer to Elmo; yet his bizarre penchant for bananas, breaking into epileptic passenger side car ride dancing, and an unhealthy obsession for the color yellow never quite caught on in America.

Zondra:

Perhaps her artsy goth-punk chick angle was bit ahead of its time on the Jim Henson Hour in 1989. Part of the Guerrilla Television troupe that would spontaneously interrupt JHH programming, she was last seen with fellow uber geek cohort Chip toward the finale of Muppets From Space. Oddly enough, she'd be a hit at Hot Topics across America and among the angsty teens out there.

He was never our answer to Elmo - we have Elmo. Eric is quiet and never really did much. It was just a short sight gag - Elmo is far more irritating.

How about memorable non-JHC Muppets. Roland Rat is probably the most famous in the UK, then there's the 'Wolves' who were hilarious and done by the guys who originally puppeteered the Hoobs - all those were the sharper kind of puppet humor. Then of course ALF and Greg in the states. I may well start a thread and post some pictures.
