Big Bird Question?

I'm starting to obsess over Big Bird more now and I was wondering if Big Bird was originally suppose to be just a puppet when Jim Henson designed it. I then heard that Kermit Love made it a full-body puppet costume instead. Does anyone know?

It was always a full body, but Jim Henson wanted the Muppeter to wear it backwards so the legs could bend like a bird
