I actually never have gotten the chance to view most of these episodes, the ones I have seen so far are the ones with the 35th Anniversery Special, the one where Gabi is on her way to Hooper's, the ones with Curly Bear's growl, and when she won't share with Oscar, Telly's letter packages from Seth Green, Super Grover's super school, Elmo's Chicken Dream, and Mile's Band, I think that's it.
You think you guys are miffed about the fact that the Count's counting organ never got blown away for the number 0 during Season 35? Well, consider that they built his organ to omit the highest number ever featured as the Number of the Day, the number 21! And that's just 1 more number to include for next season's segments.
Oh heck yeah...it's a shame that the sponsor number and the "character counts as high as possible" number are BOTH limited to 20 nowadays (Joe Hundredguy and the "24" spoof were exceptions). I don't speak as just another nostalgic fan; seeing the clips and songs about higher numbers would teach kids something too. (Believe it or not, there are good reasons to understand numbers over 20 at that age...like the price of milk at school, Grandma's age and so forth.)
As for the "zero" sketch with the Count, the vanishing organ is fun; I think he should have some new material for that number, though, to keep the show from being too predictable.
1990s seasons had a greater variety of classic cartoon skits (many with new sound effects and/or new music added), but by around 1999 the show was saturated with 1990s cartoon/animated/live-action segments which would continue into the turn of the century. I also agree that Season 35 was terrible. I only know of one classic segment aired that season - the "LOVE" word animation, with the arms embracing the word - and there may have been one other classic segment that year. Though "The Street We Live On" special - which later became a part of Season 35, as the first episode - had three classic segments: The Typewriter Guy "C" for cat, "Ten Song (Song of Ten)" (first airing of the "Number Song" series since the late 1980s); and "Ten Tiny Turtles on the Telephone" - all three of those segments had new sound effects added. I never did like the idea of adding new sound effects to classic segments. Season 36 had a few classic segments - including the final airings of "Letter I (Beep Beep)" and "The King of Eight" (the latter of which we heard the floating face's voice actor from "A Count of Ten" on first-run episodes for the last time), and "P Sunset" (which had the Joe Raposo background music replaced - did the Workshop lose the rights to use Raposo's music by that season?). Season 37 was worse, as I noticed on Muppet Wiki that only three segments from the 1970s - "The Alligator King", "Consonant Sound: N for Nose", and "Jasper & Julius vs. the Apple" - were shown (and for the final time in first-run episodes), and that was the final season with cartoon segments from the 1970s; and by that point I was pretty happy I quit watching in the mid-1980s while I did.
