Let's see, I've seen a few high school productions of Grease and Oklahoma, and some local dinner-theater productions of The King and I and A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum. Recently, the university theater department did Urinetown, and for a journalism project, I sat in on rehearsals for about a month and hung out with the actors.

On the larger scale (both on and off-Broadway and on tours), I've seen A Chorus Line, Footloose, Hairspray, Starlight Express (saw it twice on tour and loved it), Chicago and Spamalot (nearly died laughing during that one).

I think I'd like to see Avenue Q, and perhaps Rent, and one of Stephen Sondheim's works, like Sunday in the Park With George.

The only Broadwaymusical I've seen is The Lion King, and my mom and I kept talking about it for months afterward! The music is breathtaking!
I have, however, seen several movies, though apparently not as many as some of you!

Annie, (I think just ab everyone's seen this one!)
The King and I
The Sound of Music
Chicago
the very beginning of Hello Dolly
And of course I've seen all the musical Disney movies!

I've also seen Oklahoma in dinner theater, although I didn't really care for it, and some of my favorites were actually from local high school versions!

I guess I'm not much of a Musicals person (though I am an extremely musical person!) Aside from many different ballets that I've seen in my life, I've only ever seen one musical: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which I loved very much!! I've seen that one multiple times. But I hope to see more musicals later on in my life.

As for the musicals I've seen (as opposed to the ones I've been in):

Fiddler on the Roof - my high school put this on when I was a sophomore. After seeing it, the theatre bug bit me hard. That fall, I auditioned for my first-ever play, was cast in a great role, and 15 years later, have been in about 55 productions to date.

Annie - with the late Nell Carter and John Schuck ("Painless" in the original MASH and many, many films & TV shows)

The Producers - with Lewis J. Stradlin and Alan Ruck (Cameron in "Ferris Bueller")

Oklahoma!

Little Shop of Horrors

A Chorus Line

Godspell

Chicago

Mame

No No Nanette

42nd Street

Oh yeah...

I saw a rival high school's production of Grease, 'cause at the time I was dating the girl who played Frenchy.

I'd like to see a live Gilbert & Sullivan production some time. To date I've only seen the film version of The Pirates of Penzance with Kevin Kline, and the modern-dress Mikado with Eric Idle.

Whoo! It is so awesome! I played Motel the Tailor in my school's production last year. THIS YEAR, however, (at a new school) they are doing High School Musical:rolleyes: , even thought we're a junior high. But, I love the theater more than I hate it so I got a part

It sounds like y'all might wanna join me at the forum at www.musicals.net (my member name in Apples2for10).
Thanks, Princeton! Cool message board.

Since I saw the movie last year, I've become a fan of "Phantom of the Opera." My most recent post at my blog (March 9) involves some recent surprising news about the play. (It's just below the posting about Capt. America's "death"):

If you'd like to read my quick review of the movie:

I love musicals! My favourites:

  • Cats (My all-time fav. I've seen it 5 times live, own all of the official recordings plus a few of the unofficial... and have tons of memorabilia. Plus, I have three Jellicle names, and well heck, I'm just about as obsessed as they come. LOL.)
  • Jekyll & Hyde (A friend I used to have in highschool got me into this one, but I've never had the pleasure of seeing it live. I've seen the PayPerView showing of it and own the DVD, with David Hasselhoff as Jekyll/Hyde and Coleen Sexton as Lucy. I adore the music and the engrossing story.)
  • Starlight Express (Let's just say I'm a big ALW fan; I love practically all of his musicals, LOL. But I really love the music in this one. If you've never heard Jo Gibb singing Next Time You Fall In Love, you don't know what you're missing...)
  • Avenue Q (I so want to see this live, maybe this Spring. The music is awesome and so, so funny. I've seen some numbers of it over the internet.)
  • Romeo et Juliette (I own the French DVD and this one simply rocks. Gregori Baquet as Benvolio is, like, so totally hot. :flirt: LOL. Everything from the music, lighting, sets and choreography is just stunning and inspiring to me.)
  • Song & Dance (I've seen a few clips of this old one and really like it. I'd love to see more. The music is lively and the choreography is amazing.)
  • The Secret Garden (The first time I ever came in contact with this one was when my highschool's Masque & Sandal club did a regional production of it. It was love.)
  • The Phantom of The Opera (That same friend from highschool that got me into Jekyll & Hyde, got me into this one as well. Introduced me to it, in any case.)
  • The Beautiful Game (Never seen it, but want to. The music is beautiful.)
  • Cabaret (I'm not too sure how I got into this one...)
