Those are called Twisters and it was just a strange stylistic choice which they dropped because it was hard to animate (I THINK that's what they said) and distracting. They talked about them on one of the dvd commentaries. (I'm a nerd and have watched all commentaries on all episodes up to season 11).

I'm glad they dropped it. It just didn't look right on Season 5 Bart to be animated like a Tracy Ullman short. And I'm glad the series proper didn't look like TU shorts (after the first season, anyway). Bouncy animation just doesn't work with the Simpsons as a TV show.

Though I am glad they occasionally bring back Bart's bottom row of teeth over his upper lip face.

What's the deal with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic having a large male fan base? As far as I know neither show was aimed at males, and I don't think many males would have watched the original series if they didn't have to (I admit I did watch the show at least twice, can't remember why, I reckon I watched because there was a girl there watching), so it's not like there's a big nostalgiac factor. I know there are fans of the show on the forum... Can any of you explain the male audience appeal of the new show (I've never watched it, don't have The Hub)?

How come at many restaurants, meals seem to have to come with sides? Often I go to a restaurant, and I'm told it comes with two sides (or just one), and I sometimes have trouble finding sides that I like. I often feel like I have to have the sides (not sure if it's mandatory or not). Of course, if they don't charge extra, then I very well could just get the sides and not eat them.

What's the appeal of rereleasing so many old movies in 3D? These movies were not originally intended to be seen in 3D. Ironically, most older movies that were made in 3D (like Jaws 3-D) tend to have reputations for being terrible movies (though this rep seems to only apply to mainstream theatrical films... 3D films at theme parks tend to be a lot better).

If the original Star Wars trilogy needed to have "episode numbers", why did it need to start with "Episode 4"? I don't think I've ever read an official reason... The closest I recall reading about is that when George Lucas knew he could complete the trilogy he had "Episode IV" added to the beginning.... But it could have still began with episode 1. Unless Lucas was considering making prequels back in the early 1980s but holding off until the late-1990s.

Here's what I understand:

The reason it's okay for dudes to watch MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC is because of the indirect connection to Craig McCracken (his wife created the show).

How come at many restaurants, meals seem to have to come with sides?

Um, unless you're poor, who eats a meal WITHOUT any kind of side dish?

What's the appeal of rereleasing so many old movies in 3D?

Because 3D was an overused gimmick for a while. What's the deal with so many older shows and movies being cropped into a widescreen format?

Right now I'm watching Home Alone 2, and just noticed a line in the scene where the parents find out where Kevin is. Kevin's mom says "He's not a trouble maker"... Uh, what about the trouble he caused when he punched Buzz for eating his pizza in the first film, or the trouble he caused at his recital, or his refusal to apologize to the family?

Family moments aside, I think she means to say that Kevin is not one to go around and stir up trouble like some little punk kid who has no sense of right and wrong.

I thought that was only the case with some of the Warner Bros. shorts. But I wouldn't be surprised if this issue just passed my radar.

The Powerpuff Girls also had a pretty sizable male following, yet its about three girls with superpowers. Although like Snowthy said, Craig McCracken created the show, and by extension his wife created MLP, so its ok? Nah, I've never actually heard THAT particular reasoning why MLP has a male following. I don't think its a bad thing either. What's bad is when you've got those super bronies who will turn EVERYTHING into an MLP argument or bring it up for no apparent reason, whether or not MLP was even the subject. I've seen some pretty heated arguments twisting everything someone says to be about MLP. Its those people that give the sane fans a bad name.

Most meals come with the side included. You are not paying extra for the side. If you said you didn't want a side they wouldn't charge you any less. You aren't being forced to buy a side for an additional price. I don't understand what you are complaining about. Just get the meal and don't eat the side? Again, they are not pressuring you into BUYING a side. INCLUDED means you get a side for free.

Usually, like sides, a salad came with your meal (unless it's like pasta, or a burger/sandwich, or something like that), at no additional cost, but NOW, some places DO charge extra for salads now. Clearly, they just want to milk more money out of customers... pretty soon, we'll be charged extra use of salt, pepper, and other condiments.

But on the subject, what's the deal with restaurants bringing you another full glass of your drink when you ask for a refill? I mean really, are they no longer allowed to just bring the pitcher of the beverage to the table and top off your glass, or take you glass into the back and refill it anymore, they have to bring a another whole glass? I mean, suppose you're waiting on a large party at a table, and they all need more drinks, and you bring them more glasses of beverages, wouldn't you eventually find yourself running low on glasses for other customers? I mean, what sense does that make?

Spike the dragon, Discord, and a number of male ponies exist. The main ponies just happen to be girls. I think I am less baffled at the male audience and more baffled at how rabid the fans are. They are some of the scariest people I have ever come across O_O

I wouldn't know that about salads. I don't generally get them.

As for the drinks, I think it depends on the restaurant and how they manage their drinks. If they are just fountain sodas, it would make sense to bring you another cup instead of having a pitcher sitting around getting flat. *shrugs*

On a similar topic, sometimes when I'm at restaurants, they'll bring me refills before I am even halfway finished with my drink. This is often at restaurants I go to enough for the servers to know me fairly well, but has also happened at restaurants I don't go to often.

Sometimes, when I'm at Hooter's, the waitress will bring me a pitcher. But at Hooter's I'd rather the waitress keep bringing my refills. It gets her coming back to my table more often (and although the waitresses are supposed to spend time with the customers, it is just as common for the waitress to only come to my table when she has to, even at times when the restaurant isn't very busy).
