I look forward to seeing what the 40 Years of Sunny Days set is like.

I say "look forward", as I put it on my Christmas wishlist this year.

Now on the Sesame matter I think if you kind of did it by decades then it could be done well. say for the 70's set have one disk all the street stories another disk all the Muppet skits from that decade and then a thrid disk for all the Anamaided and other skits. Something like that would be very interesting to see.

Yeah, I've decided, if I get to pull the wishbone this thanksgiving, I'm going to wish for a set like that to come true by the end of next year. Unless I can think of a better idea for a Sesame Street nostalgia set (I guess I'll have to and not tell anybody so it can come true). But I recommend everybody do the same if they get to pull the wishbone (unless they can think of an idea they like better).

Of course I wonder if a two-disc set would be better, featuring all inserts on disc 2. My listing of animation and film inserts seems small compared to the other disc content, and the animated inserts are usually really short. I honestly couldn't imagien making a wishlist for a three-disc 1980s set like that, because I really can't think of too many films and cartoons that I know are from the 1980s.

Honestly, we can say whatever we want is going to be on these disks, but we're going to be sorely disappointed. Again, we're talking about a company whose business model is thinking that 4 episode DVD's for 15 bucks (rather than full seasons for 20 bucks) is recession friendly. oh Yeah, more for less. I'm SURE these will sell like hot cakes.

Really, I wish there was some way SW could get creative control over these sets. Genius did a remarkable job, and even Sony Wonder did alright near the end of their partnership. I do NOT like this whole "Warner Bros is going in a different direction with classic materials" jazz. Somehow the "different direction" sounds like "we ain't gonna do it at all! Buy one of the hundreds of complete season sets of shows that just finished their season." And they wonder why no one buys DVD's anymore.

I often wonder how much creative controll the video distributors actually have. I feel like the distributors just distribute them, but I could be wrong. It's a shame we don't know who to ask about this (right?). But still, it seems like the Genius releases weren't too different from the Sony Wonder releases.

• This might not be too likely, but maybe a "where it all began" boxed set, featuring the first five episodes (yes, even though the first episode has been released), the five test pilots, This Way to Sesame Street, and maybe also the original cut of the pitch reel (with a different ending, which doesn't invovle Kermit coming up with a title).

I was thinking a bit about this last night, and I wonder if a single-disc "Best of the First Week of Sesame Street" would be a good idea. The whole first week was sponsored by the same letters and numbers, and quite a few sketches were repeated throughout the week (some were in all five of the first five shows). It could include a number of street scenes from that week, plus various sketches... Stuff that was repeated throughout the week, rarities, I'd prefer a Buddy and Jim skit that isn't the picture hanging one...

Sure, it might be a bit misleading to put "the best of" in that title, as many fans aren't really familiar with the street scenes from episodes 4-5, and I'm sure that a lot of inserts from that week wouldn't be in people's minds. Still, I feel like that week does have some classic moments, like Wanda the Witch, Bert and Ernie Blow a Fuse, and one of the James Earl Jones sketches. I'd like to see the rare Henson E Claymation that premiered in either episode 2 or 3. I'd also like to see Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, but I don't know what the chances of clearing it are.

Also, such a release could start with the opening scene from episode 1, and the closing credits from episode 5.

Bonus features could include This Way to Sesame Street, the first five episode number sequences, and maybe also the second test show.

I was thinking the other night, since Warner Bros. seems more interested in releasing two-disc collections of it's animation properties than four discs, maybe there could be two-disc Sesame Street collections, similar to the Looney Tunes Golden Collections, but each disc could have seperate 90-minute "themed" content, plus a handful of 5-10 minute themed content.

For example, volume 1, disc 1 could have 90 minutes of Bert and Ernie sketches, then approximately 90 minutes of alphabet inserts (one for each letter, and a few general alphabet segments), and maybe all of the ice follies sketches. Then disc 2 can have 90 minutes of classic Grover sketches, 5-10 minutes of season one Grover sketches (keeping them seperate), and around 90 minutes of number segments. And then for volume 2, disc 1 can have 40 minutes of Big Bird, 30-40 minutes of Oscar, and 15-20 minutes of the human cast, then disc 2 can have 90 minutes of Cookie Monster, 60 minutes of pageants and stories, and ten minutes of Sesame Street News (or live action and animation).

Heck, last night I was thinking of ideas that could be a little bit too far/ ridiculous: A two-disc ccollection higlighting the first 20 years, a two-disc collection highlighting the first 24 years (before "around-the-corner"), and a two-disc set highlighting the first 32 years (before the big format change).

Man, I hope so... Vol. 3 was going to cross my birth year, though it would probably take till vol. 4 for me to see things I really remember. Aside from the toons on that they played for years, ad some of which are already on the first two.
