I have read the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's totally given me a differing view of what the "real" story of Oz is about. I want to see the musical too. My friend has the soundtrack and there are some great songs on there.

I own the book but haven't read it. Per my understanding, it's a great book, but it isn't within the same universe as those books which follow after L Frank Baum's Wondeful WIzard of Oz. I didn't know Wicked was a musical now. Anyways, I've decided that after I've read all the OZ HISTORY Books in the canon 40 books, then I'll begin reading other versions of Oz.

Just finished the book and saw the musical

I finished the book last week right before my NY vacation. I wanted to read it because we had tickets to the musical. The musical version veers wildly from the book, but I think they did a great job of boiling down a book that tends to ramble. They also made it less sexually provacative in order to gear the musical to families and blue-hairs that go to the shows when they tour the country.

I was never a huge fan of "The Wizard of Oz", but I love it when people take an existing story and investigate the plot from another character's point of view. It reminded me of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead". Wickedness and evil are in the eye of the beholder....sort of like patriotism. These labels are used so often by people with an agenda, and other people are so easily swayed it's scary.

Anyway, I recommend both Wicked the Musical and Wicked the Novel.

I bought the soundtrack yesterday but can't figure out what the storyline is. Should I buy the book or can somebody who has seen the musical tell me?

I like to consider myself an Oz specialist for some reason, but I still have so many things to learn. I read Wicked and I didn't like how they ended it and how Glinda was depicted. I like Glinda and they made her a superficial fairy *pouts* And I never really understood why Elphaba was so mad at Dorothy.

Hey, Fozzie where do you get your OZ books? I've been loking around and I have found Books of Wonder distributes most of the canon OZ books. Do you go somewhere else?

Elphaba's sister was crushed when Dorothy's house fell on her right? I think it was her sister...
