You can make it... it costs like 8 bucks at one of those annoying high class bakeries with fake cutesy names... but it can be done.

I agree we need to get rid of corn syrup, and I'm seeing less and less of it in cereals (at least General Mills) and even in drinks like Capri Sun and Newman's Own Lemonades (they had to tinker with the formula like crazy, and it tasted incredibly sour for a while, but they got it right).

But here's the thing... junk food is widely known as junk food for a reason. once they change the term to "mother's milk" then there is a true complaint. I deeply believe a lot of people know what they should eat, they just don't care and don't want to. Banning the heck out of everything and treating them like smokers is NOT going to solve anything, and just make them angry and frustrated.

But the number one thing that everyone forgets is that kids LIKE sugar. Only way to raise a kid without the stuff is to feed them nothing but organic crap that only a small percentage of families can actually afford. And you have to do this continuously since birth. Kids will only eat oatmeal if it has something floating in it. Parents have to force kids to eat healthy, and I just don't see that anymore. I see parents too lazy to say no, and parents that desperately want their kids to be their best friends. And we all know what happens when a boy's best friend is his mother (wocka wocka).

I agree something needs to be done, but everyone's large on complaints and bannings, and short on long term, more deeply effective solutions. Like, I dunno... maybe raising the working class's pay so they don't have to gorge themselves on cheap chemicals? Let's not forget while a lot of people do eat whatever they aren't supposed to because it feels good, this sort of thing preys on the ultra-poor. You all see super sized fries... I see a nation that has to stuff themselves with 1 dollar Banquet frozen dinners and Hamburger helper to survive.
Yeah, banning isn't the way to go. I have no problem with real sugar; it's corn syrup and the corn lobby. That Yahoo article was treating corn syrup like it was the same as sugar and it isn't. Chemically it's very different but people are afraid to say it because of Big Corn. Sugary treats have always been around, but health problems weren't out of the ordinary until the sugar swap. Corn syrup is spiked sugar that's intended to be addictive.

I do think advertising for corn syrup spiked products shouldn't be pointed at kids. You can make a sweet tasting, cartoon-shaped product without loading it up with that garbage. The only reason actual sugar is more expensive is because of the corn lobby. The price has been fixed in favor of corn. The problem with expense of sugar is as artificial as corn syrup.

Anyway, as a kid I always hated the Oreo cookie itself. It was all about the center! I always felt the cookie should have been made out of that! Anyone else feel the same?

You know, when I was a kid the "craziest" cereal my mom would let us have was Frosted Flakes :frown: I never got to try any of the sugary, chocolatey stuff. Now I eat it all the time, because I can XD

I had the same type of parents. I ate many bowls of Froot Loops during my first year in college. I also liked Pops and Sugar Smacks when I could get my hands on them. Lucky Charms was the one I most wanted as a kid because of the colored marshmallows.

Now breakfast cereal for me would be Kashi with vanilla soy milk and a dash of honey and brown sugar.

Eeeeewwwwwww! Not me! Those things were nasty! Don't miss them at all.

I can tell you after comparing the two that natural sugar taste waaaaaaaaaaay better then corn syrup! Taste the difference and compare the taste of Jones Root Beer with A&W. There is no comparison, I am hooked and I never want to go back to corn syrup. By the way? Anyone here not the far back when Coke and Pepsi had their products with natural sugar for a limited of time?

My mom loved Double stuff by the way

Haha! I love eating everything my parents wouldn't let me have or limited my portions with. I also love not eating everything they would make me eat, and could have as much as I wanted (the stuff kids hate). Too bad I liked so much of it, anyway. :stick_out_tongue:

Not to mention it's a ripoff of the discontinued (since 2003, but brought back for a short time last year) Hydrox, which I heard is much better (I've never had it before).

That reminds me of a gag from Futurama.

I definitely remember Giggle cookies, always had them at school!

And for the record,I've always adored Oreo cookies, especially if they're Mint or orange during Halloween, hehe.

Never heard of them, but then again, this town was always a hundred years behind everyone else. :embarrassed:

I just remembered that I miss Butterfinger B.B.s as well; glad just the Butterfinger bars are still around though.

Giggle cookies were cream filled and had happy faces on them (hence the name "Giggle" hehe)
