A lot of these are retired or obscure, so I don't get how they would necessarily be ''new'' and ''best''...

Ah, so basically any character that was created after Jim Henson's death?
Well, I wanna say Yolanda and Uncle Deadly. I know technically they're older characters, but they didn't become more integral parts of the group and have their current personalities until the 2015 show.
