Tonight I'm just glad to be "Home"

Boy, talk about experiencing the ultimate reality check! Tonight, a long-time friend of my husbands invited us over to dinner in this new million dollar home they now live in. They used to live just down the street in a home basically identical to the one we live in, and, like us, had 2 kids under the age of 4. But then, they found they were "expecting" again, and decided they had to get a bigger home. Well, we saw it for the first time tonight; and what the mansion it was! Over 4 times the size of what they used to have. We ate dinner in the "dinning room" while the kids ate in the kitchen. At first, I couldn't help but feel a we bit of envy, especialy when I saw my "dream bathroom" I have always wanted. But then as I looked over all this, I couldn't help but think "Wow! As beautifull and lavishing as this is, I wonder if I could ever realistically live in a home this big?" It seems to meet their needs, and I'm happy for them. But something just seemed to be missing that I couldn't put my finger on. Then, as I helped the kids get ready for bed tonight, my eyes happened to fall upon the pen marks on the bathroom wall, stating the names of the kids, the date they were put there, and how tall each one was, then other sets of marks showing how much each child had grown in 3 month incraments. Thats when I knew what it was that I felt had been missing at our friends house - the "little things" like this. It simply made me all the more gratefull to have what I have; a house full of memories that I wouldn't trade for the world!

Today I'd like to be on the coast of Italy!

When I was 3, we went to live with my grandparants in San Diego, Ca. They had some next-door neigbors who were from Italy, and even though my grandparents moved a long time ago, I have still kept in touch with these neigbors of theirs on a regular basis. The last time my husband and I went to visit them, I noticed a picture of the coast of old Italy on their wall, and mentioned how beautifull it was. My old friend mentioned how the sea air there is like no other place in the world, and actually has some medicinal powers of some sort. He said when one of his sons had been hit hard with asthma, he had actually sent him there to live with a relative for 3 months. He swears that it was the only thing that finally cured him!

Well, right now my family has been hit hard with a terrible virus, which causes terrible respiratory problems. My husband and I and our youngest have been hit hard, and it takes forever to truely recover. And today, my oldest, who, untill now, has seemed to be able to defy this gunk, just secummed to it and woke up feeling awfull. I think this whole family could use a good dose of those ''healing airs'' of old Italy! So today I think I would like to be on the coast of Italy, enjoying the beauty and the ambiance, and all the while getting me and my entire family well again!
