The new Happy Meal box looked kinda creepy. Maybe if they wait til Halloween and make a scary theme out of it, their promotion might fly.
All they would've needed to seal the deal- hire some people in walkaround costumes with tthe Happy Meal Box bearing its teeth walk up to little kids and give them nightmares for the next month.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

The new Happy Meal designs are

A) far from new. Europe got them about 2 years before we did. In fact, they actually had a couple international promotions where figures of those characters. Latin America had a Soccer themed promotion a month ago.

B) a cheap attempt to "Minionize" everything. Following in the footsteps of the cannibal Cinnamon Toast Crunch pieces, and the completely unoriginal Chips Ahoys.

Then again, I like these guys more than the lame Ferris's Funky Farm characters. But I really miss Hamburgalar and Grimace.

I did like the Klasky-Csupo-esque animation in those Ferris commercials, though. The guy who worked on them does have a lot of talent, and even did a couple Sesame Street segments.

Anyone else fed the heck up with them calling reality shows "social experiments?" First off, that's a real high opinion of themselves to make the trashiest television there is sound smart. And secondly, what's to experiment? People act like complete A-holes when they're on television. Always the same result.

The main thing I would tell people is don't lose faith in humanity based on these reality shows. This isn't at all how real people behave in normal life. This is how people behave when placed in an artificial, high pressure (often intoxicated) environment. And more often than not, at least in my observations, the people involved in these shows are horrified at their behavior afterward.

It's the same with the Internet. People feel free to behave horribly because it feels like a fantasy in which they can indulge themselves.

And they are often coerced into terrible situations, and when they aren't, the footage is edited to make them look like jerks. I'd say the worse example of losing faith in humanity are those who watch these shows. Especially those who watch them ironically.

There's some article on Cracked written by a former Biggest Loser contestant that basically shows how horrible the show really is behind the scenes. They apparently edit contestants who are about to collapse from over-exaustion to look like weak, fat, stupid babies and complete selfish jerks for not wanting to ...well... die doing the dangerous level of exercise the show demands. All to make sure guys with high metabolism who eat nothing but massive quantities of Taco Bell can get a good laugh at the jiggling, crying fatties. And seriously.... they market the freaking show as inspirational. Double

Have you ever seen Taxi Driver? The guy is disgusted with all the filth he sees around him, yet the only movies he goes to see are pornographic. Basically he likes to torture and punish himself for his own desires. I think I've had similar experiences watching "Dr. Phil" type talk shows, or even posting on hostile message boards. I feel miserable afterward, yet I do it again, lol.

You know what? I actually do take that back. Those things were actually quite adorable when they weren't just a little off. I really liked the odd Celtic dance one (you know, for the kids). The one I really hated were those odd CGI ones that wanted to look like kid's books they had just before the Ferris ones.

I also take it back because, know how I said they "Minionized" them? Yeah... design wise, they are kinda fun, but I got really sick of seeing their commercials fast.
