When was the first time Eric Jacobson performed Bert and Grover?

I know that somewhere around 1997-99, Eric Jacobson began playing Bert and Grover whenever Frank Oz was too busy.

I'm kinda curious now, when was the first time that Eric Jacobson did Bert and Grover? And when did he officially become the regular performer?
