When it comes to learning new slang, I tend to be quite slow, so I have to ask: what's up with suddenly anything that turns out to be disappointing is "gay"? "Gay" USED to mean being extremely happy, and now here it is meaning something is disappointing? Who comes up with this crap?

My buds and I toss around the word gay like that. We'd say "That's so gay" meaning it was silly or it sucked, not homosexual. Then I remember when a close friend of mine admitted he was in fact gay. We openly accepted it, but without thinking about it, we were watching something dumb on TV and I inadvertantly blurted out "That's so gay" and immediately felt bad, but my no out friend laughed and understood what I meant and didn't take offense. He said "We say that too!" I know several gay people and some are okay with the slang and others are offended by it, so I play the field cautiously depending on who I'm with. My belief is whether you're straight or gay, white or black, male or female; you have to have a good sense of humor and be able to make fun of yourself as well. If you can dish it, you need to be able to take it too. With all my very close friends, we tease each other lovingly about race, religion, orientation and lifestyle with understanding that we're okay with it and also devoting the respect to those areas as well.

My nephews and little-sister-in-law say that everything is gay. It must take too long for some kids these days to form any well formed opinions.

Teenagers, oy. :smirk:

EDIT: Added the "some" before "kids" so as not to offend the absurdly smart teenagers who post here. Well, with the exception of a few, hee-hee.

I have an example

A couple years ago, I was in class, I left to go to the bathroom, I came back and set the pass on a small table by the door, the teacher asked me later "where's the pass" I said i left it on the table by the door, but someone had lost it since then. Then the teacher wrote on the board, that no one could use the pass for any reason for the rest of the term because I lost the pass (which I didn't) I told my friends about it later and the said "That's so Gay!"

That's the problem with the English language; too many people keeping on inventing new slang terms, or reusing old words with a new many. You know stuff like that is actually illegal in other countries? They don't want new words constantly popping up in their vocubualary. It would be nice if we could do the same in English: it's the largest growing language in the world, and it keeps on growing and growing and growing.

I thorw around the term ' gay ' as well, and so do most of the people I work with. Depending on the situation most of the time it's just a slang word that most people use especially teeagers. lol Whenever my day sucks I would say ' THIS IS GAY! ' And for the reminder of the day everything was gay no matter what it was lol. If peoople get offended then oh well it's their problum. Dosen't mean I have anything agunst gay people.

And do you know who's done more to destroy the English language than Archie Bunker? Snoop Dogg. I didn't know you could get rich by sounding like a foul-mouthed idiot, while somebody behind you plays a drum machine.:boo:
