what the nerf?

I just found this picture over at the smithionian site, they had an article on Bonnie Erickson.

I wonder what was in that box, what type of nerf toy was in it, how was it use, and can we still get it today.

I remember having a box like that when I was just a wee sprite in the '70s.

It's probably this.

I saw it and I was like hey I had one of those!

I used to think that Henson/muppets had a speacial muppet making machine, and everything was specially made like the eyes.

but the more i talked with actual muppeteers the more i found out they used everyday things like nerf balls.
