What Religion Would You Assign to Each Muppet?

Hello! this is my first post in the forum so my apologies if this is a faux pas.

I am hosting a presentation night with my friends, the idea is that everyone presents a slideshow on a topic of their choosing. My idea was to assign a religion/beliefs to each Muppet (The Muppet Show & Sesame Street main cast specifically) based on their personalities.

Basically i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar train of thought and what their opinions on the topic are. Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

This is a tricky task that could become a pretty risky line of reasoning in some cases -- like, you want to be sure not to assign anything to Crazy Harry, as any attempt could be interpreted as discrimination of the assignee.

Other than that, apart from obvious selections like Sheikh of Araby, Hawaiian dancers, Vikings etc., Muppet characters are archetypes for the common traits in human nature. These exist in any religion and any country, both good, bad, and everything in the middle. So, any Muppet character can basically be attributed everywhere.

However (exactly because these archetypes are so common and so recognizable!) the actual act of assigning specific traits to specific religion or ethnicity can be seen as stereotyping, which is also frowned upon as a form of biased opinion.

To get out of this predicament, you can actually call the Muppets "puppetry mystics", as occasionally they become aware of certain beings underneath them, who just might be controlling their lives -- see more of it at the end of this video =)
