Have been thinking about this lately, actually, as my little nieces begin to become actual people and not just giggling running critters...

Books:
pretty much all of the Dr Suess books.
The Dragonriders of Pern series (at least the first 5 books) by Anne McCaffrey.
The Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K LeGuin.
the whole Frog & Toad series.
The Wind in the Willows.
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.
(when they're older) the whole Sandman series, again Gaiman.
Alfred Hitchcock & the Three Investigators...if you can find them.
All of the Far Side.
All of Calvin & Hobbes.
All of Edward Gorey.

Movies:
Ghostbusters
the LOTR trilogy
the Wizard of Oz
the original Star Wars trilogy
the original Indiana Jones trilogy
Arsenic & Old Lace (when they're older)
Jurassic Park (the first film)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Wings of Desire (when they're older)

...and a lot of stuff going into the high school/young adult years...
