What is this character a parody of?

Here's a character called Maire (Maura) Mare*. If somebody calls her Maire, she yells, "Don't call me Maire! The name's Maura!" or "That's Maura!" Does anybody know what Sesame Street character this is a takeoff of?

*In case you don't know, a mare is a female horse.

I think the character is Benny Rabbit.
Many times people would talk about him being a bunny....and he would yell "Don't call me bunny....the name's Benny!" lol

Well, I watched some Sesame Street during the time Benny was a character. Not a lot, but some. My main era was pre 1990. With his personality, it makes you wonder if Benny is a grouch bunny. Maybe it's a new species.
