I know it's all about the character and no as much the voice, but Jerry have a very specific voice that it not easy to duplicate at all.

I can very well duplicate the voice of Mr. H.Monster, but the thing that gets me is, possibly, the strain. Maybe thats why Jerry has somewhat stopped preforming Herry? Anyone notice that Frank Oz had two Blue Monsters, and Jerry had almost a pair as well, Maurice.

But, back to Herry. Ever since I saw him knock down a pile of bottles to show Ernie how to do it, I loved the guy. Also, in the American Revolution skits, the Count was no where, and Herry got to be the judge, along with the others, including Oscar... 'Cockatoo!'

I just hope Herry isn't reduced to Maurice status and become a changeable Whatnot Monster...

He has been around since the show's second season, or u could even say the first season if you count his very first appearance in Season 1 when he sang the Up and Down Song with Cookie Monster and was voiced by Jim Henson.
That wasn't Herry's first appearance. His actual debut was in the skit where he and Cookie Monster sang about circles, and Jerry Nelson performed him in that one. The "Up and Down" song was originally recorded for an LP, with Jim Henson doing a generic monster. Then in the middle of Season 2, they decided to turn that song track into a skit, but maybe due to saving money, they just kept Jim Henson's monster voice and used the Herry puppet for that character.

That song was sung during the first season, though I don't know who sang it in the first season.

I don't really think that Herry's voice would be that hurtful (though I was the first one here to openly speculate that as the reason). If anything I would expect it to be easier to do than Cookie Monster or Guy Smiley's voices.

Jerry Nelson also performed another monster, Frazzle. And of course he used to perform half of the Two-Headed Monster.

Just thought I'd point out that Herry did appear after "The Street We Live On Special." He had a cameo when Gina adopted Marco. He even did a voice over singing a song in the second episode in that series.

Anyway, it's true that Jerry's not in his best health these days, but I think the reason Herry's appearances are limited these days is the same reason other characters are limited. With the new format, they just try to keep the major characters on center stage (Ex: Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, the Count, Bert and Ernie). That's what sort of upsets me about Abby getting so much airtime next season. If they have enough room for her to appear in all episodes this season. You'd think they can find some stuff for Herry to do as well.
