I think he's just a good ol' American mutt.

I don't mean mutt in a derogatory way I'm just saying Rowlf is most likely the descendant of several mixed breeds.

You know, I've wondered that myself.

I think muts are the best, so a "good old American mut" sounds good to me!

I always thought he was a mutt. Considering mutts are usually good natured dogs. And Rowlf is so laid back, I think it suits his personality.

Since Rowlf is one of my all time favorite Muppets I suppose I should weigh in on this topic! I am in agreement that Rowlf is some sort of mutt/mix type dog. When you look at other Muppet dogs that are clearly modeled after some specific breed (like terriers, cocker spaniels, etc) and then look at Rowlf, well I just feel he's meant to represent every type of dog. Just my thoughts of course. :smile:
