I don't think Big Bird is going anywhere in the long run. it just seems like the fate of him is temporally in the air as to what to do with him in the near and distant future, but he'll be okay. The people at SW love Big Bird and would never dream of replacing him or anything like that. It seems like their figuring out what to do with the show at this point as they seem to be coming to some kind of turing point in at this point.
