Hey Beau, I have always hated and been against outlines and drafts (blech!). BUT, I can see your point about if it was, like, a mystery or thirller. I mean, for some'in' like 'at, you rully have to have some kinda formula.

But as for me, the current novel I'm workin' on is a "continuation" of my favorite series, finishin' a character's story who was kinda left hangin'.

So it's easier to write her and keep her true to character, plus I have history to fall back on and incorporate. However, I had NO idea how some o' these new characters I invented would turn out---for two of 'em, I used two o' my favorite names, but they've turned out to be rully seflish, arrogant, and despicable!

It's SO cool to see things like 'at unfold, though.

There's just no great feelin' like sittin' down, not havin' a plan, and then seein' the story and characters come together of their own accord!

I love the way the characters take the rigns and steer you the wrong way. Though it can be annoying somtimes!!!

I have invented this character for a tory and I sooo hate him and infact I gave up the story because I can't stand him but he keeps nagging at me to get back to the story. I will have to shoot him.

Could this be the continuation of the infamous Byron and Chasity saga ? :stick_out_tongue:

I agree, I usually don't have much of a plan when I start out. I just kinda write and see where it takes me. I've never been any good at outlines. But I definitely do enjoy writing - that's my degree, too. I write all kinds of stuff, but I would especially love to write children's books!

Heh. I love coffee, but I DON'T like the smell. I'm all backwards, aren't I?

This thread rocks. I totally know what you mean about characters developing and how they turn out and everything! I always say I'll never have kids b/c my characters are just about all I can handle (along with all the cats I plan on getting  ) For example, I have this one lizard-lady named Andra in a story I'm working on called Freak Earth. I liked her at first, but now I can't stand her because she's becoming sort of prejudiced and she's rully mean to one of the other characters, Monita. And then there's Sinna in my Electric Mayhem fanfic. She's gonna have a kid and at first she wasn't gonna care about it- and just drink and smoke and stuff. As I continued planning the fanfic, she became more responsible. It just fit better with the rest of the fic. This makes me want to write that fic now. :zany:

I wonder when I read sometimes if the authors really got to know the characters. Do you guys begin to see your characters histories, parents etc as you write? Do you begin to believe your stories?
But really I am beginning to get of today’s topic so I’ll shut up now. [/B]
I know what you mean, Beau. I tend to do that w/my characters.....Get REALLY involved in their lives, coming up w/all this history & stuff...I know ALOT a/b my characters...Course, I have to leave SOME things out....
It IS fun when the characters suprise you, isn't it? I once changed the way a story went b/c I had a dream that went SO much better!!!

.....Bleh. I don't like coffee either. I'll take tea, thank you.
