Hey, I just discovered this just now. Not sure where this goes, but I thought it was funny. Lately I've been listening to a few choice Weird Al Yankovic songs- he's really hilarious and he does usually keep his songs clean, so I like that. Anyway, in his latest album "Poodle Hat", he has a song called "Couch Potato"- which is a really funny parody of Eminem's "Lose Yourself". Throughout the course of naming many other TV shows and channels, Weird Al also mentions that he's watching The Muppet Show where they go "Mahna Mahna"!!! :zany:
Check out the lyrics here.

I am a big Weird Al fan. I like Weird Al Yankovic almost as much as I like the muppets (though I like the muppets a lot more). Of course, I wonder how often Weird Al watches/ watched The Muppet Show. He mentioned one sceen from one episode, and he has said in interviews (and in his Ask Al section, and in some chatrooms) that his songs are not autobiographical. He has made a few refferences to muppets in other songs (mainly his mention that Yoda is like a muppet in the song Yoda), but as far as I know, the only time that he worked with the muppets was in an interview in Muppet Magazine.

Weird Al probably would've made a perfect guest for Muppets Tonight!
I could really see a hilarious combination there! Just think of Muppet versions of his classic parodies- "Like a Surgeon", "Fat", "Eat It", "Girls Just Want to Have Lunch", etc. or some of his original songs like "Dare to Be Stupid". He, like Robin Williams, seems like a natural to work with the Muppets (but, outside of Robin's classic sketch with Elmo on Sesame Street, neither have appeared with The Muppet Show muppets yet, as far as I know)

Did anyone ever see The Weird Al Show? I never did, so the news that it's coming out on DVD is great for me.

I remember when I first heard that line in the song I went nuts. Weird Al rocks ad if him and the Muppets ever got together, only good things could come out of it. Him and Gonzo? It'd be a match made in Heaven!

I agree with you 100% this is why there needs to be a new muppet show!

Judging from UHF, The Weird Al Show, the Al-TV specials, his contributions to the I Love The (decade) series, and quite a few of his songs, it's clear that Weird Al just seems to be infatuated with TV in general. It's probably his #2 obsession behind music. So of course it stands to reason that the Muppets would find their way into his songs.
