I just wanted to tell someone about this, so here we are. This weekend I am going to Indianapolis, 4 hours away. I have never been there before in my life. I am getting a ride with a fellow college student I never saw before in my life, and I will be staying at the house of a lady I likewise never saw before in my life. This is a bizarre situation even for me. The reason? Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program. I went to Germany last year with this program. I had an amazing time, and I want to do all I can do for the program. So I signed up for volunteering for it. I thought they might be doing stuff in my town. I never imagined that they would ask me to go all the way to Indianapolis to help determine which students would go to Germany next year. Obviously they did. I did the same thing in reverse in Germany last year, but the interviews were in my town. The coordinator in Indianapolis said I could stay at her house. I went through the entire college phone book asking people from Indianapolis for a ride there since I don't have a car. I grew this brazen from selling thousand of Girl Scout cookies. Finally some girl agreed to. So if I never show up again, someone along the line did me in, but I am looking forward to this adventure. :excited: At least it'll be better than staying in my dorm room, slowly dying from overeating on cafeteria food. And the looks on people's faces when I tell them is hysterical.

By the way, my grandma will be 93 tomorrow. That has nothing to do with nothing, but it's another thing that shocks people when they hear it.

I sent her a card, and my mom reported back to me that Grandma even managed to read it on her own. Aaaawww. She even knew it was from her oldest granddaughter and not "that girl from Germany" as she calls me sometimes. <-- happy teary eyes

I'm thrilled that you still have a Grandmother, and that she is doing wo well! I've never had grandparents and I'm always so jealous when I see people mistreating their Grandparents. :grouchy:
I want to go up and SHAKE them and ask them "don't you know what you have?" I actually did that the last day of my old job! There was this teen snapping and belittleing her Grandmother. The lady looked embarrassed and just didn't know how to asnwer the girl. I asked the G'Mother, "May I say something to her?" And she said yes.
I stopped the girl and said "Excuse me....but do you normally talk to her that way?" And of course she just snarled at me and rolled her eyes. Then I siad "one day, if you're VERY fortunate you'll have a family. Then you'll be a grandmother and then maybe one of your grandkids will be rude, and hateful to you and embarrass you in public and everywhere else. And right now NOBODY thinks you're big or important or smart by talking to her this way! I've seen the way the other women here look at you and they think you're a selfish little witch as do I!
I've NEVER had grandparents. I'd give EVERYTHING I have just for one minute with one of mine! You have something that few people have and you're too stupid and selfish to appreciate it. One day this beautiful lady will be gone and you'll hate yourself for acting like you are now.............and I hope she's here for a LONG time, but I hope you realize how horrible you are right now!" :embarrassed:

The G'Mother was stunned as was the girl. The G'M thanked me and the girl was really thinking about what I'd said to her. Hey, it was the very last day for me on that job, and I was scheduled to leave in 10 minutes........what were they gonna' do? :embarrassed:

As far as your trip, I'll be thinking of you and I know all will go well! :zany:

I'm telling you, the worst ones are the cute little Brownie Girl Scouts. They look so sweet, but they wil steal your hard-earned sales without mercy. It makes the rest of us just as hard-hearted and evil.

She lives, cool. That was rather a scary thing to run off and do, in retrospect.
