Warning: Attention all Pro Puppet builders

Just wanted to let all of you who have been Emailed by a certain new puppet company, to be cautious. I won't mention their name, and I'm not saying don't work for them. I'm just telling you what happened to me and leaving it to your own judgement. They sent me an Email saying I have made it to the next level or something like that, regarding their search for puppet builders. The Email said that we should send them a sample of our puppets, plus another full bodied sample. I responded by writing them an Email, telling them that a truly professional puppet builder won't just give their puppets away in hopes of getting a contract. And that the concept was insulting to puppet building artists. Well, this so called "Christian" puppet ministry responded with the most psychopath Email I've ever received, (from someone named Melissa) calling me multiple four letter words, threatening to send a virus to my computer, and that I should "go somewhere and die!" Plus a few other sick things that I can't repeat. I've saved their Email to remind me of how hypocritical people can be. So the moral is, know your worth and be careful, brothers and sisters.

Thanks for the warning, Pauly. Sounds like to me the possibility of someone spamming folks that they have read about who make puppets and are trying to gain some real puppets for their own collection.

Besides that, how dare they consider you only a "next level" puppet builder?? THAT'S what makes me think this is bunk-bunk.

Oh, and the part of knowing your own worth became topic of discussion here, and I suggest that folks read this thread because there's some good advice in it:

Thanks for the warning again, Pauly.

One other thing I've learned is that you should always get at least HALF down on the puppet before you build based on commission and state that it is non-refundable...but, keep in contact with the purchaser to be sure you're doing what they want.

I took on a task once and the purchaser backed out on me at the end of the whole ordeal--even after she was seeing what I was making the whole time and telling me changes to make!! THAT won't happen again.
