Gosh, I figured they wouldn't risk Jim or Frank possibly injuring themselves, I'd think they would just film as is, and flip the picture upside down during the editing process.
I figured the same thing. Just goes to show how dedicated Jim and Frank were.

When I read about them really being upside down, I was surprised. It's a wonder they needed professional pilots dressed as Ernie and Bert for the long shots. But as I keep reading it, I wonder if the plane was actually moving with Jim and Frank inside, or if they had the plane hung up in the air.
