I'm
not back, so don't get excited over anything.
I'm just sharing these pics from almost a month ago where I got to meet some Muppet Guys at the Knoxville Fanboy Expo: Bill Barretta, Kirk Thatcher, Kevin Clash, and Steve Whitmire (again).
All these guys were so super-nice, and really make you feel like you're an old friend. I got to spend several minutes with Bill and Kirk chatting not just about Muppet matters, but the art of puppetry in general. I already met Steve once before in 2018, but I couldn't resist seeing him again, and just the same, he is a terrific guy, very nice, very easy to talk to - I went to his table just as he got a call saying that he was missing from a DINOSAURS photo-op on another floor, so he left for that, but was glad I came back to his table afterwards.
They had Kevin in an entirely different part of the Convention Center because accordingly, they wanted to group him with his co-stars from the live-action TMNT movies. Unfortunately, I didn't really get to spend any time chatting with him; he had a pretty sizable line at his table, and his volunteer chaperone wanted to keep the line moving at all times so it wouldn't get too long (similar story when I met Jon Lovitz, who really didn't seem to be feeling up to snuff that day in general), but it was still an awesome experience getting to see him in person just the same.
(Allan Trautman was going to be there too, but apparently had a last-minute cancelation due to illness).
Before anybody asks, no, those aren't actual Kermit or Elmo puppets at Steve and Kevin's tables, they're replicas that were gifted to them by other fans. Steve said the Kermit replica was made by a father-son team of puppet builders from Sweden, and that it was very, very close to an authentic Kermit puppet in terms of size, construction, performability, etc.
I asked Kevin to sign my copy of the 40 Years book, which I had already had signed by other SS castmembers in 2017, such as Alan Muraoka, Roscoe Orman, Emilio Delgado, Bob McGrath, and of course Caroll Spinney.
I also took my DVD copy of MTI in to be signed by the others, because it's still one of my all-time favorite Muppet movies, and one I know they all worked on. Bill even signed it in-character as Clueless Morgan, which was so funny.
So yeah, it was a great day meeting great people! Like I mentioned earlier, I also met Jon Lovitz that day as well, because he was always one of my favorite comedians, but he really didn't seem to be feeling well that day: he sat at his table coughing, and only smiled whenever people posed for selfies, otherwise, nobody really even got to really talk to him or anything, so that was a bit of a disappointment.
There were a number of other people I would've really like to have met that day . . . but alas, I ran out of money after meeting Jon Lovitz. Paul Williams was there, I really wanted to meet him, but he alone was about a third of my entire budget for that day! There were also the likes of Danny Trejo, Anthony Anderson, Jaleel White, and plenty of others, but I couldn't even find their tables: they had so many guests this year, they had tables on all three floors of the Convention Center - some of them were in areas I had never stepped foot into before.
