Hello there, I have noticed that most people here are from American or that area and unfortunately for me I cannot seem to find any suppliers for the polar/antron fleece material or even foam board to use to make puppets!

Can anyone help me out?

Yeah, it isn't easy to find the stuff you need here in the UK!! I have never had any luck finding Antron Fleece but have found Foam Board in several places. You can get small A4 sheets from Office World, or larger sheets from Hobby Craft. It is also sometimes found with artists supplies.

Hope this helps,

Guy!

What is the suggested foam board thickness? I have never done puppet building with foam board before so haven't a clue what thickness to buy.

Right, since not many people seem to be in the Uk to help me out! I've given the internet (which is "for porn" ya know!) a hardcore search and found the Croft Mill http://www.croftmill.co.uk/ supply "Polar Fleece" which, fingers crossed, is antron fleece (that Henson stuff) or is at least something similar.

I'm still working on foam sheet, though I have found a few people who do it, I'm just looking for the right sizes!

Cheers for getting SOME info to me though Guy!

Polar fleece is not antron fleece and it's not really similar, although many people make puppets out of it and it works just fine. Antron fleece - which a lot of people make a big deal about - really only needs to be used to make puppets for television so that seams are concealed. It's expensive and not really necessary if you're making puppets for theatre or live shows.

You can order antron through Georgia Stage in the U.S., but it will probably be very expensive. In addition to shipping costs, you have to pay a tariff on it because it's a textile. I've heard that the UK tax on imported textiles is about 100% (they double the price) but maybe check with Kathy at G.S. and see if she knows whether or not that is true.

There are no UK suppliers for antron fleece unless you happen to find a puppet builder or someone else who is selling some that they've ordered. A good group to contact if you need to know where to get supplies is the British Puppet & Model Theatre Guild. If you post an ad on their message board you might get some helpful suggestions about where to find supplies locally.
