Does anybody know the lyrics and what happens in the video of Smokey Robinsons song "U Really Got A Hold On Me"? I vaguely remember it and I can guarantee, it scared the bojangles outta me back then.

Don't have the lyrics, but maybe JFS can help on that front. As for what happened in the video... Smoky Robinson was singing the song to a female letter U Muppet. The funny thing of the song is to see the various ways the female U was pouring herself onto Smoky and not letting him get away. There's a part where the female U squeezes Smoky's head between her uprights, another part where she's on the ground tugging at his ankles, another where she bends the upright waving good-bye, and then the end part where she sort of scoops him up into the bottom curve of her U-shape.
Hope this helps and have a good weekend.

Here you go.

I don't like you
But I love you
Seems that I'm always thinking of you
Oh, oh, oh
You treat me badly
I love you madly
You've really got a hold on me
You really got a hold on me, baby

I don't want you,
but I need you
Don't want to kiss you
but I need to
Oh, oh, oh
you do me wrong now
my love is strong now
You really got a hold on me
You really got a hold on me, baby

I love you and all I want you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me
Tighter. Tighter.

I want to leave you
don't want to stay here
Don't want to spend
another day here
Oh, oh, oh, I want to split now
I just can't quit now
You really got a hold on me
You really got a hold on me, baby

I love you and all I want you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me

You really got a hold on me
You really got a hold on me

There you go. Have fun w/ it

I remember hearing one time that Smokey said a little kid recognized him from Sesame Street and ran up to him and asked, "Where's your U?"

LOL. By the way, the lyrics JFS sent aren't exactly the ones used on SS. They changed the lyrics a bit to center around "U".

No, not particularly.
Though now that I'm older, would've maybe liked it better if it had been a male U Muppet squeezing and grabbing onto a female singer.
But it's an OK song/sketch.

It's already happened in the mid 90's when Melissa Etheridge sings "Like the Way U Do" the same thing more-or-less happens.

I don't think that it was scary - although I was into my teens the first time that I saw it. I knew that it was one of the typical SS parodies or plays on words, and thought it was kind of funny.
Really, what's scary about a letter U that wants to chill with Smokey?
