Hi,

There is also a story I remember about Big Bird having his birthday and everyone forgetting it and he is upset, and then they surprise him. I can only remember little details of it but remember it made me laugh as a kid. Can any one remember anything about this and does someone have it on tape?

I would love to get copies of old sesame street episodes. Im prepared to pay costs of tapes and deliver etc.

You can email me on jedb30@hotmail.com

Im really keen on the old muppet new flashes with kermit the frog, if I could get some of those as well.

Cheers

Correction: It was 1991.

I used to have it on tape, but it started to wear out. Fro, what I remember...it was called "Big Bird's Birthday -or- Let me Eat Cake". In this special, Big Bird has his 6th birthday bash. The beginning of it had a composition called "It's Big Bird's Beautiful Birthday Bash Today".During this scene too, Oscar pulls out some of Big Bird's tail feathers. Afterwards, Big Bird and the gang go to the roller rink, while Maria and Susan decorate the arbor. Snuffy wants to go with Big Bird, but he doesn't know how to skate, but Big Bird offers to teach him. Once at the roller rink, Snuffy won't walk onto the rink for fear he'll fall down. Maria finishes baking Big Bird's cake, and while she and Susan go to find more chairs for the party, Cookie Monster comes along dying to eat the cake, but doesn't want to spoil the party, so he starts eating tables and chairs. Then there's the skating talents of Bruno, who skates all over the rink gracefully, disgusting Oscar. Meanwhile, Cookie has eaten every single table and chair, and has just finished eating the lamppost, and Sesame Street sign. Now he starts on the mailbox. Snuffy finally decides to let Big Bird teach him how to skate, and that begins the song "Put One Foot in Front of the Other". Cookie then finishes off the newsstand, when Maria and Susan arrive in the nick of time to save the cake. When everyone returns for the party, Gina and the Count put 500 candles on the cake, and after the happy birthday song...every one gets a piece of cake...even Cookie, who also finishes off with I and 4.

Other skits include:
* Monsterpiece Theater (The King and I)
* Robin Williams and Elmo with a stick
* We Are All Earthlings
* Monster in the Mirror (extended celebrity version)
* Monster on the Spot (support public TV)
* I've Got a New Way to Walk

Hmmm. I remember the one with the roller skating party but I can't remember the one you're talking about. I have seen the "Surprise" song at the Sesame Street Lyrics Archive though.

Unless someone else has Big Bird's Birthday on VHS or DVD, then no. If I remember clearly, some of the celebs included: Ray Charles, Whoopi Goldberg, Bo Diddley, Bo Jackson, Robin Williams, Geena Davis, Julia Roberts, the Simsons, etc.

It's a completely different song. Much more uptempo. I believe the lyrics are:
Put one foot in front of the other
It's the easiest thing to do
Put one foot in front of the other...
and then something to the effect of "you'll do it Snuffy; I believe in you"

Snuffy picks up the melody hesitantly as he tries to do the motions. It ends up getting really soft and stacatto and nervous, then other people start joining in and it builds up really big as Snuffy starts to get the hang of it, ending when he falls over.

Awesome song.
