Traveling with puppet

i wanted to know what would be a good way to travel with a puppet, i am going to houston on April 12th and wanted to taked my puppet with me,

would the customs or people onboard have a problem with it?

what would i put the puppet in ? like a bag?

You shouldn't have a problem with it. You'll have to pre-clear U.S. customs in Toronto before getting on the plane and as long as it's not remaining in the United States you shouldn't have to declare it. It's just a personal item. I find that the trick to going through U.S. customs without a hassle is just to be polite and answer the questions they ask truthfully.

You should take the puppet as a carry on (if there are detachable rods, pack them separately in a checked bag). If it won't fit in your carry-on then pack it carefully in a suitcase and make sure it's wrapped in a couple plastic bags or sheets to protect it. A hard case for the puppet is ideal, but not always necessary.

hi guys
i have the same problem, i'm going to new york in june. were going to perform in seven chuch and give work shops. How do i pk an entire show (stage, puppets, pads, step stools, lights, equipment etc.? help!!!!!

Traveling with puppets

The puppet team from our church went to Costa Rica last summer with our whole show. We had puppets, a stage, foam pads for kneeling on and plastic step-stools for standing on... the works. Everybody on the team got one bag for their personal stuff, and checked one regular suitcase of puppet stuff under their name. It worked great.

The best part was watching the customs officer's face when he opened one suitcase and saw a whole bag-full of puppets smiling at him.

Just make sure you use a suitcase that's fairly rigid, not a duffle bag. In fact, we use a suitcase to store some of our puppets at home. Makes it easy to take them anywhere.

For our stage poles, we used golf-club travel bags.

I am visiting my aunt and uncle in houston, they bought a new house there, and am going for 10 days with my parents,

thought take my video camera, and my puppet Faze or Clucky with me, like do a video diary kind of thing with him

- so not a good idea for detachble rods to put in my bag? or wrap it up really good in bubble wrap or something?

like if i wanted use the puppet at the airport or on the plane?

The problem with the rods is that they could be prohibited as a carry on item. They might not be, it depends on the design of the rod and the security people who screen you. As I understand security protocols in most airports, if they decide the rods are prohibited they'll seize them and they'll be lost.

When I went to the L.A. auditions, I took Muley since we were planning on a Puppeteer Dinner one night. I only had to keep his box open at the main entrance to be inspected, but then the tiny padlocks on his box were locked and they put him on the plane. I had no problem from there on. Once the box passes inspection, the puppet should be all clear in luggage. Just make sure you pack him in something HARD so he isn't crushed.
