New to SESAME STREET this season, “Trash Gordon,” a segment that focuses on literacy, in which Oscar reads to his pet worm, Slimey, an adventure from his favorite bed time story: “The Adventures of Trash Gordon,” starring our own Super Hero - Gordon.

This is insane, Gordon is a science teacher by day, superhero by night. Or by the rest of the day. Either way, he's a superhero!

A thumbnail of Gordon in his ridiculous suit is here...

What does everyone think of this?

It's silly. (Is it an April Fool?) But is it taking up some Elmo's World time, or replacing Hero Guy? Cuz then I like it.

Here's a quote from the Sesame Workshop press release:
"Also new this season, a closing segment sure to be the newest model for storytelling: in Trash Gordon, Oscar reads a bedtime story to Slimey."

It's been on the Sesame Workshop press site since January 10th, its not an April Fool's joke, and if it is, its a long-planned one.

If us old folks couldn't get the joke (well, you old folks), how will kids get it?

Well, do they need to get it? It's got child humour for the kids, and all they know is that it's one of their adult friends from Sesame Street being funny, acting as a superhero.

Do kids get the references in Monsterpiece Theatre? I doubt it. Maybe Little House on Prairie, but otherwise, all they know is that it's a funny little play.

Hmmm... well I'd rather see a joke that will go over their heads, than no jokes at all.

So far we're hearing of a researgence of satirical pieces like "Far From Seven", Dr. Feel, etc. So any satire is welcome.
