There's a scripture somewhere that shows God answers the prayers of those calling on his name.

I don't think you understood me. I am not saying that God doesn't answer prayers, just that I personally don't think he makes "deals" with people of the "If you give me this, God, I will do this..." variety. That is just my opinion of course.
