Ah, Jamie. Me thinks you just have some deep hatred for Monsters Inc. You've been ragging on since it was released.

Just cause the guy isn't a professional actor doesn't mean he can't voice a character. If the filmmakers believe the voice is right, then the person is cast. Look at someone like Andy Serkis in LOTR. The guy is an actor, not a voice over specialist, but he did a fantastic job with Gollum's voice. The dude from Monsters Inc. also isn't a voice over specialist. But he nailed the character. Roz was a crusty old bat. And that's how he voiced her.

Oh, and in A Beautiful Mind, Austin Pendleton played the guy late in the movie that was interviewing John Nash about the Noble prize.

Craig D-

I actually like the film. Not quite as much as I enjoy Shrek, but enough to buy the DVD. I've stated my difference of opinion and you happen to disagree. I certainly have no rage or hatred for Monsters Inc at all. I know people who worked very hard on that film. I don't think the voice of Roz was adequate. You do and it's really great you enjoy it so much. The character falls flat for me when she opens her mouth.

There are other aspects that I find lacking in the film, but most of that was in comparison with Shrek. I have said many nice things about Monsters Inc - the untouchable animation, the creative concept and the incredible job they did on Boo. No film or animation company has anything on Monsters Inc or Pixar when it comes to computer animation. I wish they had more of an interesting script and more parts for the big kids, but there's other films out there that do. Monsters Inc offered something all its own.

as to the comment about the voice actor nailing the "crusty old bat" Roz:

I feel that the animation is what really set the tone for this character. If you close your eyes and listen to the voice, at least in my case, it doesn't conjour up visions of crusty old ladies.

Now, in support of this casting choice, I thought that both Weezy and Hemliech the Catapiller are both wonderful vocal preformances (from the same animator) that worked for the film.

I think its just a case of using it when it works. They are starting to push it a bit in my opinion.
