This is confusing me

I have a November 1998 issue of Sesame Street Magazine I recently purchased at my local Goodwill. The entire issue is about Sesame Street's 30th anniversary. Well, this is what's confusing me...if Sesame Street started in 1969, then wouldn't the 30th anniversary issue be November 1999?

Reminds me of when everyone was celebrating the false millennium of 2000 and ignoring the real one in 2001.

I thought the new milliennium was 2000. The AD years did start at 0 Ad didn't it.

To get this back on topic, the show began its 30th season in 1998, so that's what they called their "30th anniversary" (common for TV shows) -- the actual 30th anniversary, of course, wouldn't be until the END of the 30th year, or the start of the 31st, in 1999.
