Really? I thought Big Bird was featured quite a bit in season 37.
Maybe that's just me. Anyways, I don't think Sesame Workshop
would never retire "the bird" no time soon. If they ever do, I wouldn't
be surprised if Oscar, Ernie, Bert, Snuffy, The Count, Grover, Cookie
Monster, and Prarrie Dawn all suffered the same fate.

It really just seems like it's "out with the old and in with the new," and
I don't like it at all.:grouchy:

Okay, ten episodes into the season my wholly unofficial, not-guaranteed counts so far are:
10 episodes: Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, Elmo Monster, Murray Monster
9 episodes: Count von Count
8 episodes: Slimey, Mr. Noodle
7 episodes: Grover, Oscar, Gordon (including once as a cartoon)
6 episodes: Prairie Dawn, Telly, Zoe, Chris
5 episodes: Baby Bear (not including a small photograph), Big Bird, Maria
4 episodes: Elephant, Ernie, Rosita, Gina, Susie Kabloozie
3 episodes: Bert (not including a picture on Ernie's wall), Alan, Marco
2 episodes: Barkley, Grover's customer, 2-headed monster, Luis, , Hero Guy, Traction Jackson. If you're counting whole species: Honkers, Dingers, Wegman's dogs
1 episode: Snuffy, Susan, Mr. Noodle's brother, Grundgetta, Kermit, Stinky, any number of other characters.
Yet to appear: Bob, Gabi, Miles. (though the already-released summaries make it clear that Gabi will make an appearance later, and the credits give reason to hope for the other two, as well.)

Big Bird was in 8 eps this season? That's more than I thought. Of course I missed a few, so I'll have to check that out whenever my local station replays those eps.

I've heard Miles had appeared in one ep so far and Bob has appeared as well, just in material that was recycled from earlier seasons. So far Gabi appeared in two episodes, so that's a good sign.

Okay, unofficial counts from season 38 (Characters, human and Muppet, with at least 7 appearances):

26: Abby, Cookie, Elmo, Murray
23: Count
19: Ernie
18: Oscar, Prairie
17: Telly, Grover
16: Gordon, Mr. Noodle
14: Baby Bear, Big Bird, Zoe
13: Slimey
12: Bert
11: Rosita, Gina, Maria
10: Alan
9: Elephant, Mr. Noodle's Brother
8: Chris
7: Gabi

This counts only episodes, not segments; if a character appeared twice in the same episode, he is only counted once. Also I have made no attempt to distinguish between new and old segments.

Indeed, Chris is the rising star of Sesame Street.
