“Weeba weeba, waffa waffa, garpox gumbage, whoopee!” These are the words to the Solemn Oath of the Fraggle. Here is an example of how it is used:
In “The Preachification of Convincing John,” Mokey believes that eating Doozer constructions hurts the Doozers’ feelings, and she tells her friends so.
Red: Mokey, you are silly. There is no way you could make us stop eating Doozer constructions.
Mokey: I could always call for the Solemn Oath of the Fraggle.
The other Fraggles cry things like, “No! You wouldn’t!” and then start to leave, but Mokey calls them back and says, “Let the oath be sworn.” Red grudgingly acknowledges that once one of them calls for the oath, the others have to swear to it. And so they all swear off eating Doozer constructions.
Eventually, Mokey overhears some Doozers saying that they need to have their constructions eaten so they’ll have room to build. If there is no more room at Fraggle Rock, they’ll have to move on or die. So Mokey releases the others from the oath. But for me, this episode begs the question: what would happen if someone refused to take the oath? Would that someone be taken before the Venerable and Eminent Council of Sages? Or would the Hall of Justice be booked? Mokey has called the Solemn Oath of the Fraggle “one of our ancient and unchangeable rituals.” What would be the consequences of not taking it?
