The Secret of The Crystal-The Mini Series

Around a year or so ago, I posted on this forum that I was going to post a Mini-Series of my Dark Crystal-type idea. During that time I had said, that it was going to be during the Christmas Holidays. Well since then, I've written the screen-play for it.. and I've decided to post it during the next few nights. Also, please do not copy my idea in any way. My screen-play isn't copyrighted yet, but I'd appreciate it if you guys/or gals wouldn't copy this.. to make it your own. I hope you enjoy this Mini-Series, and so here's the first part.

The Secret of The Crystal

FADE IN:

INT. THE CASTLE OF THE CRYSTAL- NIGHT

There are two thrones in the middle of the frame. There is a king and queen sitting on them. They are both Gelflings. A young pre-teen gelfling is standing, facing both of them. The Gelfling's name is Ren, and his parent's names are Jen and Kira.

Jen and Kira were originally main characters in The Dark Crystal. In this film, they are both middle aged. They have a son and a daughter together. They are both sitting on their thrones, which are on the main floor of the castle.

Jen is sending his son, Ren, off into the world.

JEN
My son, have I ever told you the
story about how I found The Dark
Crystal?

REN
(he is looking at his father)
Yes, Father, many times. What's
your point for telling me it?

JEN
(looking worried)
Well... I always wanted you and your
sister to know how much trouble I
went through to find the crystal. I
just thought it would be right for you
two to know why it was so important
for me to save the crystal.

REN
Why have you and Mother asked me
here?

JEN
Your mother and I both agree, that for
you to understand and respect The Dark
Crystal... You must go out and find the
meaning of the crystal. While you are
doing that, your Master will be able to help
you with anything that you desire to know.
We think you are finally the right age to
have a chance to explore the world on your
own.

REN
Thank you Father, but do you think I'm old
enough to be able to do this on my own?
Not that I don't wan't to do it or anything.

JEN
Well, I was exactly the same age as you
when I went out on my own for the first time.
Do you feel like you're ready?

REN
(happy, but nervous)
I think I am.

JEN
(glad)
Good. Now, your Master, which I've personally
chosen just for you, should be waiting for you
in the front of the castle.

REN
Thank you. I'll make you proud.

It looks pretty good so far. Some of the dialog might not be exactly right, but more importantly, if you want a professional coppyright on this, then I wouldn't post it here if I were you. Not saying that people here would coppy it, (in general I respect the members here too much to think that they would); it's just that if you are planning to submit it to the JHC, it would need to be kept under wraps.

Thanks guys. Well, when Jerry Nelson was still on here.. I told him about that idea, and he personally told me that really liked it. I am planning to make a film version of the my screen-play, but I wasn't planning on giving it to Jim Henson Co. But I was going to put both the film/screen-play in my portfolio. And about the copyright issue, I already trust you guys anyway. But thanks again for your comments. I'll post the second part tonight.

Tonight's part of The Secret of The Crystal is kind of a short episode. In tonight's part, Ren meets his master.

EXT. OUTSIDE THE CASTLE-NIGHT

Seated is a Mystic, who is wearing a tan robe. The body is wrinkled, and it has a long, lage tail. The mystic has grey hair, and his body is lightly tanned.

This mystic is the Master that Jen chose for Ren.

Ren is meeting his Master for the first time.

REN
Master, my father told me
that you are going to help
and guide me on my exploration.

MASTER
Yes Ren. Your father told me that
you might need help finding out
about the crystal.

REN
What type of shelter will I have out
in the forest?

MASTER
There are still some surviving cabins
that your father used when he went on
a similar exploration as yours.

REN
O.k. What about the food? Are there
any things out there that might be
poisonous for me to eat?

MASTER
There are many types of fruit trees
throughout the forest which we will
pass on our way. There should also
be some plants and roots that should
be able to give us nutrients. There
aren't many poisonous plants out there,
so you should be just fine.

REN
Well thanks for the heads up.
Shouldn't we be on our way?

MASTER
I guess we should, let's go.

Well, tonight is part three of The Secret of The Crystal. And so here it is.

EXT. REN AND MASTER WALKING IN A NEAR BY VALLEY-DAY

Ren is asking Master about his father.

REN
How did my parents meet,
and what was Aughra like?

MASTER
Well first off, you may have not
known, but both of your parents
were once orphans. Both sets of
their parents were killed in one of
the wars between the Skeksis
and the Gelflings. When your father
was around your age, he used to
like to travel. One day when he was
traveling, he saw a beautiful young
Gelfling, who would later become
your mother. When your father was
trying to help save The Dark Crystal,
he came to the cave where Aughra
lived. Aughra was a really rough
looking character. She was blind in
one eye. She had a ton of wrinkles.
She also wore a red gown, that was
ragged and torn.

REN
Wasn't he scared of her?

MASTER
Oh no. She may have looked menacing,
but he knew that she would probably
help him.

REN
Why did my father have to save the
crystal in the first place?

MASTER
Well, long before your father and
mother were born, the spirits who lived
in the crystal were released when the
crystal cracked suddenly. When the spirits
were released, they divided into the Mystics
and the Skeksis. Soon after the crystal
cracked, our world began to deteriorate.
So when your father came of age to go
out on his own, the most important thing
he wanted to do, was to save the crystal.
So the Skeksis wouldn't be in power
anymore, and so the Mystics, Gelflings, and
the other creatures could live like they
had been. Do you understand?

REN
I think so.

MASTER
Well, let's move on.

The following are parts four and five.

EXT. FOREST-DAY

Ren is asking Master about the Skeksis.

REN
Would you mind telling me about
the Skeksis?

MASTER
What would you like to know?

REN
Well for example, do the Skeksis
have any power anymore?

MASTER
They haven't had any power since
your mother and father saved the
crystal. They still act tough, but
they have no power, so there's nothing
to worry about.

REN
Is there any chance that I might run
into a Skeksis?

MASTER
Yes, you might possibly run into a
Skeksis, but don't worry about it.
They will probably just try to scare
you.

REN
I was just wondering but, will you
be helping me on my whole exploration?

MASTER
Well, your father did choose me to
help you on this exploration, but since
this is your first exploration on your
own, I thought I would stay with you on
this trip... So I can show you the ropes
of what to do, and how to get around.

REN
I really appreciate that Master. What
all should I know to protect myself and
to get around this area?

MASTER
Well, to protect yourself from the rain,
you should still be able to use the cabin
that your father lived in; this was in this
very same forest. The last time I heard,
your father had left his canoe right ouside
his cabin.

REN
Will you be living with me in the cabin?

MASTER
There isn't nearly enough room for a
mystic to live in that cabin. There
is a small cave not too far from here
that should meet my needs quite nicely.

REN
Well, o.k. then. Master, it's getting dark,
do you mind if we stay here for awhile?
I'm really tired, after having to walk all
this way.

MASTER
(yawning)
As you wish, Ren, I feel the same as you do.
Well before I go tonight, I wanted to let you
know that there is a warm bed, and a toasty,
little fireplace in your cabin. O.k.

REN
Thank you Master, and good night.

MASTER
Good night Ren, and remember to not
let in anybody who look suspicious.

REN
I won't.
