As for me, I have one German shorthaired pointer (the breed's been a family favorite for years) and one German shepherd-black lab mix (at least, that's what we think he is). But I know from the Brittany spaniel - it is a very pretty breed.

Hmm, a rage syndrome - well, Richard did have his moments when he was training new puppeteers, but...

Richard: I already know what kind of dog Jerry is - he's a Cancer, he was born in the Year of the Dog, so he's a crabby dog.

As for why the discussion shifted to dogs...well, Jerry did say, "(Richard) was such a bouncy little puppy. We had to squelch him all the time."

Oh I love mixes, I wish they weren't looked down upon so much. And yes the Brittany is very pretty, though surprisingly not focused on very much in dog books and calenders.

Well some sources say "rage" was the wrong word to describe it, because dogs aren't capable of feeling an emotion like rage. Some say it basically means very territorial or dominant at times, to the point of aggression....Yeah that still fits Richard! After all he did enjoy being the center of attention and also didn't tolerate nonesense on the Sesame Street set, hehe.

Oh that's right! I love that quote, lol. And I agree, it's the perfect comparison. I wonder if Richard felt comfortable to be himself right away when starting with the Muppets, or if it took time. Probably a little of both. I remember the user Was Once Ernie talked about when he asked Richard how he managed to move up to main characters, after being Ernie's right hand and Snuffy's...um...second half. He said Richard said he realized he had to be more aggressive. I can totally understand that, you need to speak up in a job if you want more. No one's going to hand it to you. And people will be impressed that you took the initiative, even if nothing comes of it right away (work is not always easy).

I posted this on the thread awhile ago, but not sure if you saw it. There was a book review about a father who wrote about his Autisic son. We found this passage very intriging!

"Chris also liked to spell corporate logos before he was even three years old...Some of his other logos were spelled with the words lined up exactly as he saw them, but without letter spaces:

Ah yes - of all the Muppet performers, Richard was the one whose name caught that kid's eye. Even from beyond the grave (or urn), Richard is still reaching out to young fans.

It's good to see that the kid was getting regular exposure to the Muppets - but we'll have to dock the parents a few points for daring to bring that big purple dinosaur into their house, tsk, tsk.

Oh wow, that's great! Well I'm happy to have share that story with you! I'm glad your brother loves Sesame Street so much and Richard's characters especially. I actually had the same experience as a kid from a Muppet special. I loved The Muppets Go to the Movies, and it turned out years later, my two favorite parts involved Richard characters.

Hehe, yes that's exactly how I felt. I was so surprised when I first read the excerpt. What's funny is the family may still not know the significance or how amazing that is. It's such a touching story (and as I said, very intriguing.)

...yeah I did notice the Barney thing, pft! Lol, oh well, this kid probably saw more Muppet show than most kids his age! lol

Thought I'd mention this - I'm going to be in New York on Friday with the family. While my dad and brother are busy patronizing their favorite camera supplies shop, Mom and I are going to do other stuff - and we're considering trotting up to Morningside Heights to pay a call to St. John the Divine.
