Lol, and heralde... the Full House episode that part is from has always been one of my absolute favorites! I adore that scene, too. Danny's line, "So you want to be an individual so you can be exactly like your friends?" really sums it up... kids (and people, in general) want to be unique, yet they want to be accepted as well. That's a really tough dilemma for some people.

I actually recently saw a quote that said: "Always be yourself. Because the people that matter don't mind, and the people that do mind don't matter." Common quote, I think, yet I'm not sure I'd ever heard it before... but I absolutely loved it. And I gotta say, I hear some of good ol' Richard in a quote like that, too!
Wow, it was always one of my favorite episodes too! Stephanie was probably my favorite character, she was so funny (Danny too lol).

That's a great quote; people should use it to keep things in perspective! And I do imagine Richard had to have that frame of mind.

And heralde - it might be a series of natural wildfires, but I hear they arrested some guy who tried to start a fire on the freeway (I think it was near San Bernadino) this morning. You never know. I remember that one set of fires in Colorado several years ago was the result of arson.
Ah, well I do hope they figure it all out. And if it was man-made, I hope they start showing Smokey the Bear commericals again!

Ah, yes, Frances Xavier Cabrini. Patron saint of immigrants and hospital workers, and one of the first 20th century saints to be canonized. I believe she was also the first Italian-American saint to be canonized as well. And it sounds like the Cabrini Hospice is an excellent facility, so Richard would have been in good hands.

My mother explained to me that hospices are intended to keep terminally ill patients out of hospitals, so they can be with their families and friends and be less at risk for various infections.
I have read that about Frances Xavier Cabrini; yay Italian Americans! Right, hospice care is intended to be an alternative to cold sterile hospitals. You can either receive hospice care at home, or actually go to a hospice building. They're supposed to be more focused on comfort and pain management for the terminally ill and making sure the family can be close by. In many cases, they also offer spiritual support for the patient and family members.

But this would would be in such better shape if more people took the time to care about someone else other then themselves, you know?
"Isn't it a pity, now isn't it a shame? How we break each other's hearts...and cause each other pain..." (George Harrison)

Sometimes I do find it so frustrating when people find it necessary to fight and cause problems rather than find a way to be civil. They don't see how destructive such behavior is to themselves and everyone around them. But even more frustrating, I think, is when it doesn't even occur to people to think outside themselves. That's another prevalent idea in the society and media. It's OK to be selfish and sacrifice other people in order to to build yourself up. It's in all the reality shows, but it's really been present for years in a Capitalist society such as ours. :frown:

However, I do think most people are decent enough; they just aren't the ones in charge.

I know; it's the old newsroom maxim, "If it bleeds, it leads." I'll bet that for every bad person in the world, there's at least a hundred good people...and yet it's usually the bad person who gets the most attention.

I've visited only one hospice, a children's hospice. It functions differently from an adults' hospice, in that the staff are still trying to help the kids get well. But it's the same mission - keep the kids out of the hospital and keep them with their families.

I commend anyone for working or volunteering at a children's hospice; it must be one of the most difficult jobs there is. But at least they are still trying and they do provide hope.

Lol, I like that, "if it bleeds, it leads." So true, it's important to keep that in mind when watching the news, lol.

I know, that's the state of the journalism industry almost everywhere in the world. If it's grim, gory or generally eyebrow-raising, it'll make the front page or the top story on the six o'clock news (or be rotated endlessly on CNN and the net).

I know - the place I visited puts a lot of emphasis on life and hope, with the general message of "Let's make the most of whatever time is left." I was there a few weeks ago to drop off some quilts I'd made for them. I only saw the ground-floor lobby and one of the administrative offices, but the place seemed rather friendly and homey. Not at all like a hospital.

That's the idea, that a hospice doesn't even feel like a hospital (now if only hospitals could manage that! Lol). That's very generous of you to have made those quilts.

You know there was a station years ago that attempted doing "Happy News" but they discontinued it because apparently the viewing public just wasn't interested, lol. That's not very reassuring!

...Then again they probably picked boring Happy News, lol.

Aw, thanks...you know, the thing is, when Mom and I made that huge green and orange AIDS quilt panel for...well, that man we're always going on about  ...we discovered that we rather liked quilting. So that's kind of what I've been up to lately - I've been making (when I have time) kid-sized quilts to donate to children's hospitals and hospices. I also hear that police departments and victim assistance networks in many areas collect quilts to give to crime victims, and I'm trying to see if that's the case where I am.

Yeah, the "Happy News" segment is often a little ho-hum. On the other hand, though, CNN's been running a "CNN Heroes" segment, inviting viewers to write in about people who have been doing excellent things for their communities (and in many cases, for the U.S. and the world).

Cool, it's great that you've found a new hobby, especially when it can help people! Yeah I would be interested to know if the police near me do that too!

True, I think I have heard of the CNN Heroes segment, that is definitely a start. Sometimes the good deeds people have done can really surprise and inspire you.

Has anyone ever seen the Pearl Baily episode of The Muppet Show? There's a couple clips on youtube. Don't quote me on this, but I think it might have been the first (or one of the first) episodes to show Janice and Floyd being a couple. Floyd refers to her as his "main squeeze" in his scene with Pearl. You can gather he's talking about Janice because they'd just been talking to Kermit in an earlier scene, and Janice calls Floyd "Honey" (they didn't post that moment, darn! Hehe).

They're also together in the At the Dance scene, I think for the first time!

Notice Janice is a little snotty there (as she is with Kermit at the beginning of the episode), lol. I always find it amusing how the characters are always bickering on the Muppet Show, and then so nice and sentimental in the movies (and later TV specials lol).

I love that clip!. He's really good at doing that baby talk (and you know, I bet he knew EXACTLY what he was saying, lol). I don't remember the clip but I do recall the blue monster. She used to pop up a lot in the '80s.

I love that way Richard bites her nose in the end! LOL!

Yeah! Telly used to have a Friend named Julia who used to go on worrier rants with him, haha! It was the same puppet.
