Yeah, I go back to school on the 25th. And I've got to pay my tuition, get a new parking decal, start buying my books...

Don't have any passion fruit, Ed...but I might try some eventually. They say it makes good gelato, and the seeds add a nice bit of crunch.

No worries... I'll just go with Jim and ask for a lime and a coconut instead. And some help on how the singers of "Oh G" can be added to the list...

It's on the way, Ed. The lime in the coconut, that is.

You know, I learned something interesting today. If you've ever read the Tintin stories by Herge, you'll know about the absent-minded Professor Calculus. In the Japanese translation of the books, Calculus is known instead as Beaker.

Yeah, I think Snowy's kind of cute, too.

But seeing as Calculus blithely dreams up all these bizarre inventions (and inadvertently sets off all manner of chaos, and uses the other characters as guinea pigs), perhaps Bunsen would have been a tad more appropriate?

That's true, he is more of a Bunsen character. Though Bunsen often seems to be deliberately causing trouble in his experiments! I guess he got sick of having Gorillas drag him away, something inside him snapped! Hehe

Oh, man, 103 degrees? I'd have passed out from heatstroke if it were that hot here. I've always been a cold weather person, myself. (EMT voice) One bowl of sorbet, stat! (sends bowl, with spoon, flying over) Clear!

And so in season two, we see the perpetually hapless Beaker. (and hear Bunsen's sinister, hissing laughs) After all, why subject yourself to your own malfunctioning inventions when your lab assistant can do it for you?

And I've wondered about this a lot: Richard said that all of his characters had a little bit of himself in them. If that's true, what part of Richard's psyche did Beaker come from?

If Calculus is similar to Bunsen, it'd be interesting to see what Muppets the rest of the cast would be similar to. (In my opinion, Tintin would be Scooter. )

Yup, one wonders if Beaker was a paid assistant, or merely the unpaid intern!

Yes, like Steve said, he had no idea where Beaker came from in Richard. It is interesting; Richard seemed to enjoy playing loud and assertive characters, yet Beaker (who is loud yes, but not particularly assertive!) is the one he wanted to take home with him (Of Muppets and Men). Well it's hard to speculate obviously, but perhaps Beaker represented a more humble, slightly insecure side.

On the other hand, he may have also enjoyed doing such a unique voice that everyone thinks is so simple, yet no one else can truly recreate!

I agree, if Scooter was ever given his own special, it could be similar to a Tintin adventure.

Thanks MN! I the kind of person who physically can't take extreme weather.

But now that you mention it, heralde, I wonder what part of Richard Sully came from? He definitely wasn't loud.
