I think we're taking this a little to far. Ernie pestering Bert which still goes on to this day is just as much of a bad example as well. I'm sure the reason why they stopped airing them was like everything other film, muppet cartoon segment that gets reused they either simply choose to make room for newer stuff or for whatever other reasons.
