Actually, what are the stats concerning TMM vs. GMC or TMTM?
GMC made $31,206,000, and with inflation that puts it quite a bit over the 90's movies. MTM made $25,534,703, still putting it at or over the 90's movies. MFS made a depressing 16,304,786 (but hey, at least it beat out 'Gigli' and 'From Justin To Kelly'). I guess you can credit TMM for making more money because TMS was going strong at the time...who knows. Then again, I think its the best Muppet film, so maybe that's why. Who knows.

I got those stats from the-numbers.com, btw.

Muppets to OZ

Part of this I have already posted in another spot, I guess I am confused on how this stuff all works, but I think this is a new thread. I Know a great deal about OZ, and for all of you who wish the Muppets would do something original, they are!!

Yes that is right; L. Frank Baum's Story the Wonderful Wizard of OZ has never in its interiority been portrayed in any TV or Movie venue before. The story that we all know and love is the 1939 film Classic, but it is fair from Baum’s OZ. For any of you who want to know more about it, or ask specific questions you may email me directly.

The rest of this may shed some more light on things.
Thank you
The Good Doctor T.

I wanted to register with you all so that I can respond specifically to this forum about the Muppets Wizard of Oz. I have been collecting and studying Oz for much of my life and had really hoped that something like this would happen. Who better to bring Oz to life than the Henson people, and of course the Muppets? My hope was that they would use a completely new cast of puppets to play the fantasy characters. being that Disney Co. needs to reintroduce the Muppets to the world, in what hopes to be more family friendly fun and less toilet humor and sexuality. So using the already known Muppet Family of characters is a smart move. With luck we will all fall in love with them all over again.

There seems to be a lot of talk about Piggy playing both good and bad witches. This is actually a very clever plot device, that L. Frank Baum (Author of The Wonderful Wizard of OZ) might have used himself. We know that piggy can be both kind and loving, as well as sneaky and wicked, while showing real emotion, but she has always been a Very strong character. All of those elements will come into play in both roles, good and bad.

If you doubt it just read the book, (Which the film will be based on not the MGM film) the book is lots better. The wizard will be human, or a very human like puppet, after all he is just a man from Omaha. I had thought that Kermit would make a better wizard after all he is just a simple green frog. I also like the idea of using Fran OZ, the story will play better if they use a human in this role. Also Dorothy will be played by a real girl, and my vote is for a completely unknown actress of about 10.

My hope is that the Henson/Disney folks will do the book justice and follow it as closely as possible. The MGM film while being truly great leaves much of the story and original plot out. It is not a story about shoes, but about believing in yourself, and knowing your own heart. Through its humor and polite charm, it reminds us that we already have the heart, brains and courage in side of ourselves all we have to do is believe in our selves, keep home in our heart and miracles can happen.
I can't wait! The Muppets will make this a HIT!

Gang,
It is true; most are not as connected to the Muppets any more. With children’s programming like the Tela Tubbies and Barney out there, it is getting harder and harder for the Muppet world to survive. Sesame Street went from producing 100 shows a seas to less than 50 shows, not to mention the fact that With out Jim Henson’s guiding hand the Muppets have been taking the fall.

For example Muppets Tonight, which I guess had a good run on HBO was nothing but cheap laughs, and for the very first time sexual Humor in a very adult forum. It introduced us to new characters that were not only disconnected but acted less like a family. I sent Henson CO a letter after watching one show, they told me that Muppets was a show for the 90's. Well considering the 90's were about moving away from good old fashion family values I would say they got it 100% right.

Muppets from Space and there recent Christmas Special were 2 other huge flops. No longer using humorous irreverence and sincerity to convey real information, the Muppets have been coming up short for a long time. Not to mention that that the voice talents have changed for the worse. We lost Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem band, Swedish Chef, and many others like Robin and Janice, the voices just aren’t cutting it.

So at long last Disney has got hold of them, and I am thankful for it. This was a deal that fell through back in 1990, and Jim himself says it as a good merger. So now it is Disney who will reintroduce the world to The Muppets, and show us all how to laugh and love again.

Just to correct a few things: Muppets Tonight aired 22 episodes between ABC and Disney Channel, not HBO. MFS was a bomb, but the NBC movie was rather successful with 11 million viewers. As for Disney, we'll see how that works out.

Muppets Tonight

Sorry about my remarks, I had thought that Muppets Tonight was on HBO, but I guess I was wrong, it is not the first time. I have been wrong lots of times. I think that Muppets from space could have been better, perhaps with some original songs...I do not know........I just do not know. :stick_out_tongue:
