I did too! I thought it was so hilarious hearing him go "owwwwwwww..." really quietly, only to return seconds later with avengeance!!!!

My dad, a huge Muppets fan and the one who introduced me to the Muppets as a child, talked to me about his reaction to the first episode. His words were: "Yuck." Judging by everyone's reactions, it looks like we're in the very small minority. I guess we'll just have to see what happens next.

everyone keeps referring to the Sax and Violence pilot episode.. but it seems that there is some forgetfulness that, while yes that was the pitch pilot for what would become the Muppet Show... when the show finally appeared, it was vastly toned down from what we had seen in S&V... if the show had stayed like it was in that pilot, i'm pretty sure I can honestly say that I would not have grown up watching it and would not be the crazy muppet fan I am now.. it simply wouldn't have been allowed by my parents... now, this current show has a lot of potential, but at the same time, I've several friends who have decided, based on this first episode, that they will not be watching the show because it was a little too adult, mean spirited, etc.. These are friends who have really enjoyed most of the previous things, even recent things, that they have put out, but this they can't support right now. (They know that I will be keeping tabs, and hope I will be able to report better news once the show "finds it's legs" but they won't watch it til then...) (now, having seen ep 2, hubby and i are liking it more.. really loving Uncle Deadly's bit....)

I had the same reaction although it won't be very popular around here. Very underwhelming. I have lot of problems with the show. First, I think they are trying too hard to get in as many Muppets as they can in each episode. They'd be much better off on concentrating on just the core. The original Muppet Show had Kermit, Miss Piggy, Rowlf, Fozzie, and Gonzo as the main characters with secondary characters like Rizzo, Scooter, Dr. Bunson Honeydew and Beaker and then the minor characters. Most popular sitcoms have only a few main characters, think MASH, Friends, Seinfeld, Cheers, etc. Second, I have a hard time with some of the more edgier humor. To me the beauty of the Muppets was that despite their strangeness, quirks, off the wall antics they always maintained a certain innocence about them. Now in the new show we get the Electric Mayhem as stoners, Fozzie as a thief, drawings of pornographic images. Third, I think they are missing a huge opportunity to feature the Muppets in skits or musical numbers. The subplot of Miss Piggy as host of a late night show is the perfect setup but they haven't taken advantage of that. Maybe they will in the future. Remember the original show when Kermit would sit on a wall and chat with that week's guest? Easily could be done with Miss Piggy. Have we really seen any performances? That could also be done. The 1st episode had the Imagine Dragons but their performance felt tacked on at the end to fill out the necessary time slot. They really weren't integrated in to the show.

I'll give it some time to improve.

And it's so weird how she doesn't remember any of them but Kermit. What's up with that? I guess it would make sense for her to maybe forget someone like Beaker or some of the more obscure Muppets, but she should definitely remember Fozzie and Gonzo.

And oddly enough, in this week's episode she remembered Beaker, of all people.

To me the beauty of the Muppets was that despite their strangeness, quirks, off the wall antics they always maintained a certain innocence about them.

Exactly, and there are still kids shows and adult shows that embody that tone. There is no reason for the Muppets to abandon it.

Thanks to Muppet Wiki, I now know that the character doing Piggy's hair and makeup is a new female named Betty. And there's another new female character named Kim who cued the music for the Dancing With the Czars pitch.
But are these new characters Whatnots? Are they animal-based Muppets?

I really cant tell if this is a joke, or if it is a serious question, so I am going to answer it. Betty and Kim are human characters who made brief cameos, both in the first episode. Betty is doing Piggy's makeup backstage, and Kim sat behind a laptop and played the music for Dancing with the Czars.
EDIT: Looking at the Wiki articles, and seeing that each character has a picture, I am assuming the post was a joke. My bad!

Er, yes, I was seriously asking about those characters. It's common knowledge that I am a blind or visually handicapped person and when I ask about characters it's because I'm interested and want to know more than just the quick blurbs posted about them at the Muppet Wiki. Hope this clears up any confusion you may have had regarding my previous post.
