The Muppet Show Comic Books

Since I've fully admitted to all the people around me that I am a all-purpose Muppet freak, and have dealt with their shrugged shoulders and stares, I've decided that there's no reason I shouldn't start snapping up all the memorabilia that I can. So two questions regarding the Muppet Show comic books:

1. Which ones should I purchase first? I know there's the series involving the Muppets as fictional characters, and the more traditional Muppet Show based ones. In your opinions, is one series a better place to start than the other? From what I've read/seen, the "Family Reunion" comic seems pretty interesting.

2. Where would I purchase them? I know the line has been discontinued, so would I have to look on eBay for these or would some online comic sites still have them in stock? I'm not terribly well-versed in the world of comics (since the fraggle comics can be easily purchased on amazon), so all your help is welcome.

Luckily, you can now pick up some of them in magazine form via Marvel (so far they have the first arc, Family Reunion... I think Treasure of Peg Leg Wilson is due shortly enough). I don't know how the singular issues are to find, since I had the fortune of following the line closely enough that I never had to order any online... and I'm guessing they're a little harder to find now. I wonder if the reprinted versions in graphic novel form might be a little easier to track down.

Over all, I'd start with the entire run of The Muppet Show Comic Book first. Those are the most consistently well done. And, in order, Muppet Peter Pan, Muppet Snow White, Muppet King Arthur, Muppet Sherlock Holmes... and maybe Muppet Robin Hood... it's good enough, but it's not as good as the others.

Thanks for your help. I found the Disney/Pixar comic reprints on Marvel's site, but they only had the pre-order for Peg Leg Wilson and didn't have Family Reunion. Probably have to try and pick it up through an online comic shop then, unless the little comic book store nearby my dorm has them. Do you know any good online comic book retailers?

Most book stores, comic stores, and all Toys R Us' carry the Muppets comics reprinted.

I know Dr Tooth and I made some remarks awhile back at the disappointment of Boom's line being randomly canned...BUT I truly feel these collected Muppet magazines are a seriously great deal and a must have for everyone. I mean every Langridge TMS issue in one magazine form? Very cool. Plus its big size too

Do you know any good online comic book retailers?

Unfortunately I don't, because I'm pretty close to several different comic shops, and luckily for me I never had to buy anything online.

It's a boon to those who missed out on it the first time... I'll give it that. I'm seeing these actually sell in places that sell magazines when other Pixar/Disney magazine comic reprints do only okay. Still, I hope they can get us the unpublished arc. It really stinks they couldn't give them a couple month extension.

The Graphic Novels or the magazines? Magazines seem to be selling out once they hit. Other than the Disney Store, I didn't see the graphic novels anywhere but comic book stores, which is a Catch 22 for those that can't find comic stores.

I saw the Family Reunion at Target... last copy in the store. They had several of the Pixar ones, a few Cars, a few Incredibles... but just one Muppet one. Seems that those are reaching the audience.

It all depends on the format Charlie here wants... the magazines are a good cost effective way to grab the stories, but if he wants to track down the graphic novels, you get a slightly sturdier format. And then there's something to be said about collecting stand alone issues.

While the Muppet Classic line hasn't been made into a magazine form yet, I'd suggest tracking down the GN's of those, and of course, the order I put them in... though, actually, I might amend that with Muppet Snow White first, THEN Peter Pan, King Arthur, Sherlock Homles, and Robin Hood.

I didn't really realize it was available in both graphic novel and magazine format. I'd prefer the graphic novel format because it's sturdier like you said, but whatever I can find I'll buy. Hopefully I'll have some time on Friday to check out the local Paperback Trader/comic book store and perhaps they'll have something. The place always creeps me out though because it seems like they never have all the lights on.
