:search: However, it's a new ballgame with itunes and digital distribution. Many artists and music studios have taken large pay cuts in order to publish their songs on itunes. Some stars, like Garth Brooks, still refuse to digitally publish for that reason. This marks the first time that the Muppet Movie soundtrack will be officially distributed online. The fact that negotiations took place seems like a no-brainer. :halo:

I had no idea of that about digital distribution. Though with the average individual track costing 99 cents to just over a few dollars I wondered if it was difficult to divide that for everyone entitled to residuals, or even if only a few people (like maybe just the songwriter and lead singer) were entitled to such. I know "Weird Al" Yankovic once said that he gets more money from physical sales than downloads. But maybe this is a question better asked on The Questions Thread in the General Discussions folder.

Itunes was the industry solution for illegal Napster downloads of the 90's, but it will always cut into physical sales. It also makes distribution easier for independent artists. Different services divvy up sales differently. Itunes sets a base price and takes a particular percentage. They are notoriously unbending about this because most people exclusively use their service. That's the main reason why there's still so much that isn't yet available.

I guess they'll use the Blu-ray cover art for this release. I wonder if they'll add any bonus tracks.

We have another official tweet from Paul Williams:

Correction. My info on the date of the Muppet Movie rerelease is 'iffy'! It's "coming soon" friends. Coming soon

So, either the soundtrack isn't coming out this fall or he wasn't supposed to announce it yet. I'd expect it to come out around the Blu-ray launch because people are going to want to buy the music and Disney loves synergy.

I always thought part of the problem that digital downloading (legal or otherwise) arose from was the music industry cranking out crappy dance music from one hit wonders. No one's going to buy an album for one song, especially if it was a one hit wonder dance mix thing. There are like 3 songs on there, and they're usually crappier remixes. Anyway, the fact they kept churning that crap out kinda seems like the reason people were anxious to get songs over albums. This was the early to mid 00's... the rise of the stuffy songs about the buttocks era.

We don't really have concept albums anymore, so there's really no point in buying an entire album unless you're a collector or prefer physical media. I guess the record companies screwing musicians out of even more money to guilt fans into buying obsolete media.

Or if you're a big enough fan of a particular artist.
