Coming from a wannabe director's point of view, that makes sense.

But it would be nice if they hired the Muppeteers for the few number of scenes the characters are needed in (if only so we don't have to suffer through several bad Muppet impressions).

Ive had my hand in Indie films shown at sun-dance and other festivals, music videos I have won awards for and shown on MTV and various commercials so please don't call me so...sure my work hasn't reached millions as of yet but its out there.

Considering the director is a Muppet fan and a poster on MC, any real negative thoughts I have are quashed as far as that goes. Maybe you can help out with the script and fill in the inconsistencies and inaccuracies... or invite some others to help. I'd actually see it now.

I think the only way Jim Carey would do it is if he was Jim Henson. Too big a name to be a supporting actor.

Jim Carrey would be a TERRIBLE Jim Henson. Really... Jumping all over the place, acting like a doofus. He disappeared into the Andy Kaufman role beautifully from what I heard, but Jim wasn't so spastic. he played Spastic characters, but he seemed very quite and philosophical (not really the word I wanna use... but "thinky" isn't a word). I can't even think of an actor who would even be a match.

I would like to see young, talented unknowns in these types of roles. There's gotta be some wiz kid actor who's hungering to play such a role.

Congrats to kiki for breaking this story last year, its about to become big news indeed...

Its going to be a young actor, Sam Worthington type guy, who will be cast as Jim I think, not a guy already in his 40's, we are telling his life story... thats just my opinion...

Im more excited about this than Segals Muppet Movie, and Im pretty excited about Segals Muppet Movie...

Personally, my first choice would have been Heath Ledger for the lead, but that's not possible. Whatever actor plays Jim will have to be in his 20s-30s rather than 40s or 50s. This is a film that deals with the entirety of Jim's life and that requires a young man. Hiring Jim Carrey or that type of actor would be a misstep. My pick would be to find a lesser-known actor to play Jim and surround him with more prestigious actors in supporting roles. One question I have is if the film will cover the Eisner incident. I hope it does. It will be interesting to see how they handle things now that Disney will be heavily involved.

Carey playing Henson...? Oh man, I like Jim Carey and all (and yes, I would go as far as to say that he has potential, having a role in this flick, that is), but I can't picture a zany actor like himself playing the likes of *Jim Henson*.

Ah, gracias for the acknowledgement. Good thing I was on the ball, eh? I can't believe this project is actually happening though. I'm excited, but also somewhat worried (perhaps in an unneccessary way) that they won't be able to pull it all off, y'know? But overall, I'm rather psyched *finds it unusual but somewhat refreshing that the project is the brainchild of a young Australian fellow. Living in Aus myself, I know firsthand that the Muppets -and, well, Jim Henson projects in general, honestly- go unacknowledged and aren't really seen anywhere. =/*

If Disney's making the plans for this movie, then there's a big sporting chance that it'll be shelved in the months to come anyway.

I agree with those who said they're iffy about biopics; most of the time things that happen in the movie are fabricated and fictionalized to emphasize the drama of the whole thing. Matter of fact, both Bob Crane's living wife and son contested the plot of the Crane biopic Auto Focus because it was inaccurate in portraying Crane as a church-going saint who was victimized by the "evils of Hollywood", when in actuality, he wasn't a religious man, and was ALWAYS into amateur pornography. I would be very nervous to see what yarn might be bent when making this movie... I mean this is Jim Henson we're talking about - a hero and an idol to most of, if not all of us here at Muppet Central.

It seems that the Henson Company and Disney are doing this so I don't see anything wrong with it if that's the case. Disney and Henson are both invested in maintaining Jim's legacy. However, I do hope it shows enough of his human side instead of just his fame and/or this confusing fantasy-dream-state device.
