No, it shows what kind of world we live in today. It's not like the 50s, 60s, 70s, etc, where you could say hello to someone you don't even know, out of common courtesy, and that person say hello back to you.

Still a different story as far as Canada is concerned because Canadians are friendlier.

I get funny looks everyday when I simply greet someone.

Well, given that creepy people are the only ones to apparently stick by you, if I was you, I'd be untrusting, too!

You just need to find out you your friends are...or...if you're kind of socially-inept wallflower like I am, you need to find courage enough to get friends who will trust you for who you are.

Yeah! it's so true you get funny looks when you do that to people. I get then all the time but I live in a small town so it's not uncommon for people to say a friendly how do you do.
